Kate and Emma are doing the "Mid Atlantic adult woman" accent, an accent that only existed in classic B&W films and which was meant to be a hybrid of posh UK and aristocratic USA. Carrie Fisher attempted it in Star Wars; George Lucas liked her sounding like a Flash Gordon/Buck Rodgers "classy dame", but she couldn't hold it throughout all three films
