Actually BETTER?! Samsung Galaxy A34 5G in-depth review!

The price has finally been announced! The Galaxy A34 5G is at RM1,599 in Malaysia and I think that's a fair price. RM100 increment over the Galaxy A33 from last year - pretty typical considering the current economic situation. Overall, good price. I want to see how other brands price their mid-range phones this year.

Between those new A series phones, i may choose A34 over A54. I'm using Oppo A92, so either way both phones will be a massive upgrade over my current one

So far it seems the A34 5G is my top budget phone that's been announced so far. The silver colour won me over vs the the purple which really suprised me! My only worry is letting go of the headphone jack😖 Hopefully the display, performance and battery life make up for it.

An almost very detailed review of the A34 5G. But I have lots of questions: 1. How's the audio pickup when video recording? Is it in mono (96kbps) or stereo (256kbps)? 2. Can you copy text from photos you have taken? 3. Are the speakers loud & clear enough w/ no distortion on high volumes? 4. Is the GPS /network signal pickup good enough? (Quick to find network?) 5. Does it support up to 4K/60 video in KZbin? 6. Multitasking and opening of apps any good? No signs crashes or slowdowns? 7. Would you say skin tones, foliage & white balance are good, could be better or is great? 8. Any Day 1 updates that Samsung pushed to your device? I have a OnePlus 7T and a Galaxy A33 before. You think the A34 is a much better phone? I'm also thinking of getting a OnePlus 10T. What are your thoughts please? Thanks in advance.

Really appreciate your review, it was more informative than many I had seen. A54 seems overpriced. The only reason I like the 54 is because its dimensions are better for me than the 34, and playing 100 euro extra for that makes no sense.

Bought it on Amazon for my wife. Waiting for delivery. I have the Samsung M53 with Dimensity 900 chip and I'm happy with performance. The new A 34 looks promising. Some videos show that it's faster than the A54.

I'm more leaning towards the a54. I'm currently using a30s. So either the 34 or 54 would be a huge upgrade for me. I don't use my phone for gaming at all. I'm usually on social media or KZbin but I think that exynos ship will get further improved with more software updates

using social media would be better on a34, there are some western channel did a comparison speed test so save that additonal dollar to buy a34 instead

The A54 is currently around £100 more than the A34 in UK. Completely unjustified since the A34 has significantly better battery life, an arguably better processor and the difference between cameras is miniscule. The only thing I'd have like to see on A34 is WiFi 6.

I'm currently looking for a new phone (upgrading from Galaxy A32) and I overall would pick the A34 over the A54 if not for the notch. (by the way I'm upgrading so quickly because my A32 has significant cracks on the front and back and is very, very water damaged, I don't want to bring it to a repair service because I know that they'll just charge me way to much, and I don't have the correct size screwdrivers to get to the water damaged screen and fix it) and yes I tried knives instead of screwdrivers.

The depth sensor is NOT useless. As someone who uses their phone for a lot of portrait photography, the A33 takes vastly better portraits than ones without the sensor. I use between Xiaomi 12, Pixel 6A and iPhone 12... the A33 takes meh regular shots but the portraits are far better and more consistent. I am actually upset that they removed the depth sensor this time around.

Useless is useless. Look back at how other phones do portrait photography without the use of the depth sensor. Also, portrait photography heavily relies on AI now anyway

I agree with you. I'd prefer to have a dedicated depth sensor. This is an obvious move to save more money. This goes right along with $amsung taking away the headphone jack, SD card reader (in some phones), IR blasters, physical proximity sensors, clear cases with their premium phones, and chargers in the box! They will continue to take away more things if ppl are dumb enough to keep buying their phones without complaint. I don't plan on buying anymore $amsung phones, myself. If more ppl do this, they will be forced to start including things again.

I believed you would have held off from reviewing these new A series so soon especially seeing it that they aren't the final retail units,because performance and efficiency will not be carefully tuned to make it appealing to prospective buyers. As Samsung themselves would disclaim, under their pages "retail unit MIGHT perform differently from actual market devices" ...unless you would revisit both A series when they're out ?

I considered holding off, but I ultimately didn't. If Samsung can send out to reviewers with no further notice or restrictions, then I believe that they think the firmware is already nearly finalized and is ready to be tested by users/reviewers. I also want to inform the users what you'll be getting before pre-ordering or purchasing the device. That's why we have a disclaimer. Yes, things might still change by the time the retail unit comes out - but I believe it won't be a drastic difference. Anyway, I will revisit if there are significant changes to what we've tested here. Just a side note, other companies are doing this too - but they're even shadier. They pass us the device in the retail unit box and everything, but many apps do not work.

Because that varies between person to person. There are too many factors affecting the usage, like for example: 1. cell reception strength 2. brightness 3. the apps I use (I haven't account for the bad app updates that drain battery) 4. how many notifications I get that day 5. WiFi strength 6. How many hours I used etc etc. So, the test we did is standardized like a lab test.

So basically I can't decide between A34 and Redmi Note 12 Pro. Both have the same dimensity 1080. Xiaomi has 67W fast charging and the charger is included in the box. It also has a headphone jack. On the other hand A34 has a modest 25W charging without the charger included and also no headphone jack but One UI should be better than MIUI and A34 should receive more updates. So I'm having trouble deciding which one is better for me but in the end both are a massive improvement over what I am using at the moment.
