uh yeah, one of the most important steps of learning animation is having knowledge of the 7 elements of art, as well as a strong grasp of perspective, proportions, consistency and human anatomy itself. also, references help a lot. that's not discrediting this artist at all, i'm just trying to point out the many years this person has already spent as an artist.

Volume is Tricky but here are some points that I keep in mind when I was trying to learn Volumetric Animation. 1 - Take your Time. People like Roadsign, Julian and ShamaIama, these guys really take their time with each line, making sure each frame contributes to a solid drawing and consistency. You may need to literally, physically slow down the speed at which you make lines. Road has his streams and you may find it helpful to watch how long he takes to draw. 2 - Draw in the Cross Contours. Look at Road, Weilin and even Nakamura's shorthand, really volumetric animators. These guys have a solid and sure mannequin. Putting in the middle line of the cylinder instead of just the top and bottom, helps keep in mind the volume of the form. 3 - Smooth Motion. Copy these people's spacing. Spacing is KEY. If the left side of the cube moves and the right side moves at a different speed, it would cause the cube to stretch. This means if you can get your SPACING consistent, everything should follow, and it will help build the Illusion of consistency much more. Infact, smooth animations can help create a stronger volumetric animation than the drawings (sometimes). Even when animations deform, if the motion is smooth it becomes really hard to tell. This is not all there is to learn about volume. I'd also recommend getting your drawings volumetric which I can see you're striving for already :D You're doing mighty well, you'll absolutely kill it with animating. Artists to inspire: Milt Kahl, Shouichi, Keisuke Kobayashi, Hiroyuki Okiura, Takeshi Honda, Toshiyuki Inoue, Moaang, Miyaso. Grind Hard, Grind Smart, Grind Safe.
