I think the horse symbolizes his childhood. We see a vision of it on the day Simon and Agathe can safely re-enter the zone, intact, but it's in a dreamlike haze -- tough to say if it's real or fantasy. Upon actually entering the zone, its bones can soon be seen in the grass, confirming once up close, it's dead and gone. No way to get it back. It's there in the waterlogged photo album drowning in Simon's old house, and a vision like one we saw near the start watches Simon and Agathe in the boat. By sailing away, Simon leaves the fantasy it can be reclaimed behind for good, but its ghost still peacefully haunts the town without him. Absolutely adored this short. The atmosphere is fantastic.

The geese migrating caught my interest, it’s always a sign of environmental recovery when animals migrate to historical sites once more. Waterfowl in particular, since most of the times they’re really sensitive to environmental changes Also, the colors used in the film are ASTOUNDING, huge props to the use of color theory and color language! The way Simon’s blue clothes and blue bedsheets stand out in his overgrown, now wild home, like plastic in the woods. AND THE HORSE AS WELL!!! I’m not sure what the symbolism of it is, but considering how historically it has symbolized humanity’s success, I think it might be about people returning.

Chornobyl is one of the names for plant Artemisia vulgaris commonly known as mugwort and also as wormwood. So there IS a conection! It`s quite poetic espesially because of "nuclear power PLANT", still this animation gives so much hope for all abandoned locations like Chornobyl

I like that it can be both interpreted as the prophecy from Book of Revelations about star Wormwood that falls from the sky as one of the signs of the end of times and that wormwood can be translated to "полин" or "чорнобиль" Chornobyl and it being connected to exclusion zone. Still the theme of Simon returning to his home and having this second chance to finaly process his grief and let it go is so heartwarming and sad simultaneously. Having to involuntarily flee your home due to industrial or natural disaster or war and etc is so devastating. But his reconection with past gives a plethora of hope

First time watching this I thought the guys name was Gene and he was taking in the grief of losing his childhood and the two sailing away was like symbolism of him leaving or moving on from his past, literally and figuratively with his colleague whom he shared most of his first stages of grief in losing his childhood, denial, but after reading the description I realized I over analyzed the animation short film. In my defense it easy to get lost in the sauce while watching this. It was so beautifully animated and draw as well as voice acted, it showed a lot in a short amount of time. Truly yet another amazing film produced.

Ever since watching this film two months ago, I decided to start documenting my life and progress. It reminds me how time does not last forever and we only have so long here on this earth which makes it so special. I’m leaving my school this year and transferring soon and leaving my friends and a place I call home behind. I know I probably won’t be in touch with some of them so I’m enjoying it while it lasts and have been using an audio recorder to interview them and record special moments so I can be transferred back to them like the characters in the film. I also have a camera I’ll be getting in the mail too to also document my life. I’m so glad I stumbled across this film as it has been a wake up call to enjoy my life and the special moments I share with others. Thank you for creating this work of art. :)

The environmental/background animation is amazing... the way the ground whooshes at 0:38, all the walking through the grass... The collapse of the stair at 4:27, and then of the window at 6:30 were so seamless, I've never seen that done so well! (I'd love to hear more about how that was done) The build from 6:00 to 6:30 worked so well too, the animation, pacing, and sound and music really came together.

i left country where i was living my entire life not long ago. i feel this film i am not from people who wants to go back. i hate that place, it hurted me so much. everything that i am, my whole being, is claimed wrong and bad in this place. i can go to prison there for just fact of existing. at some point it was bearable to be there, but then one day it became impossible to stay there. i took decision in one day. week and i left. moment changed everhthing but a lot of people who left this place have something there. things. places. they have something good connected to this horrific place. they have connection to it i know a lot of people dreaming of day it is all ending and they can go back. for me it sounds same as sudden back to zero level of radiation. it doesn't work like this the dream of thing which once was home, destroied then suddenly, somehow becoming real again. i know people with this dream. can't say if its sad but. in that country i see house in ruins. h orse c оr рs. sometimes its sad to me to see that people see alive horse instead of that i see. it makes them wants to go to this place. and it is scary letting them go

A third of the day was without light, and also a third of the night. 13 As I watched, I heard an eagle that was flying in midair call out in a loud voice: “Woe! Woe! Woe to the inhabitants of the earth, because of the trumpet blasts about to be sounded by the other three angels!”
