Very accurate work by Micron here to hit just the JEDEC spec and not overengineer the chips to be capable of much more.

Buildzoid, MSI Unify-X vs. MSI Pro - is it worth it to grab the Unify? Does it have more OC capabilities or you just like it because of the IO ports?

As an owner of a 4x single-rank micron ddr4 kit, I found that I could never really cheat/overclock required MIN timing parameters listed in the relevant data sheet. I'm assuming circuit limitations that are irrespective of voltage scaling. As such, when I tuned that kit, I built out a spreadsheet that checked I didn't violate the required ns or nCK for those particular timings as I adjusted through various frequencies & voltages. There is a data sheet published for micron ddr5, ddr5_sdram_core.pdf Too bad they seemed to have dropped the ball competitively, but maybe they just don't care to push improvements, if they're still dealing with pmic shortages

Hey BZ, long time viewer here. Would you consider making a "round-up of best motherboards/gpus to buy" kind of video? You haven't made one in a long while and they're really helpful. I honestly really value your insight into these matters (and have previously bought hardware off your recommendation), but don't have the hours to indulge myself in research. Or maybe is there a non-outdated video of this kind on your channel and I just can't seem to find it.

I’m currently upgrading for Christmas I went with a good B660 board and a 12100f just cause I can easily upgrade to a beefier CPU later and it really is enough for games I went with DDR5 because of the potential it might have I’m getting a 2x8gb ADATA XPG Lancer 5200 CL38 kit because it is a 1Rx8 kit instead of all the other 8gb sticks which all seem to be 1Rx16 after learning about the x8 and x16 thing (with x8 supposedly being 20-30% faster) It’s sadly the only ADATA kit that’s Micron and not Hynix Should I return it and go for a Hynix kit that is x16 instead?

If AMD launches more and more Zen CPUs with V-Cache going forward, does that mean RAM OC-ing and enthusiast grade RAM will die? So consequently RAM makers will shrink their business too? Or will intel be enough to keep this going... At some point I think intel will have to have as much (extra) cache like Zen CPUs, either LLC or L3 or something, otherwise they will lose badly.
@Tomart0
@Tomart0 2 жыл бұрын
What you're assuming is, that we will have enough cache to not need RAM anymore, but with the RAM capacity increasing with each generation I assume the RAM requirement from programs etc will increase as well. I don't think that Cache capacity will catch up to RAM capacity any time soon, so I think we will need RAM for the next years.

@@Tomart0 yeah RAM is not going anywhere for x86. it may seems cool to think A CPU comes with 64GB memory 😂😂
@ItsJustVV
@ItsJustVV 2 жыл бұрын
@@Tomart0 That's not what I said... read again my comment. I said "enthusiast grade RAM" - not capacity, but performance RAM. We don't need DDR4 4000+ with 5800X3D when it works as well with 3200, so this will mean DDR5 4800 will be enough for Zen4 V-Cache and not need better/higher speed RAM. Get it now?

"I can't think of a single DDR4 memory chip that won't do 3200Mbps at this point" My 8Gb Rev B downbin RAM: allow me to introduce myself. tbf it might be my memory controller - my CPU is a Ryzen 3 2300X, so the controller isn't great, though I think it should be able to run 3200Mbps. I'll have to see whether I can run the RAM any faster when I upgrade my CPU.

I can tell you what I'm doing I go with cpu to 4.88 mhz on all cors turbo 4.2 auto 4.64ghz and get 6 core 5.100mhz all treads ram stays at up to 4166mhz x6 if I do 20mhz more auto 1 core 4.64ghz goes my ram to 3200mhz down to 6x in the normal case with 2133mhz ram no idea oda now more watt is needed than gold 650watt or has to go to 150 percent in the normall case these are the hardcore lvls in the minus the the ram up to 4,800 at 6.8ghz to better ram audmf 2.400mhz drive on 5.1 5.2ghz with nduen cpus it should actually be balanced at 3.7ghz + I think and believe that for 2133mhz ram oc +you only get up to 5.5 ghz so you need ram up to 2.400mhz on 5.7 5.8 around 6 ghz to drive high or 2.600mhz ddr4 to drive 6.2 ghz over 8 cores with the new x2 boost are from 12 cores that could work without avx.512 I think they also go to 5.32-3 or so at 4.88 at 12 with 8 sometimes bost you get eu with 8 gb gpu 2.600mhz even 10k cable 2.1hdm i 14 bit out 6x6x6 with 2400 the cpu combo 12bit 6x6x6 with 2133mhz 10 bit 6x6x6 with 8gb 8k with already 256bit output 740mb/s 356bit 1133mb/s 480bit to 1440mb/s the sec with enough ssd speed then pcie .8.0 7.0 and usb 3.0 3.2 type-c 4.0 thunderbold everything
