Well nowadays I'd say it like 60/40. You're slightly more likely to get an old train, but it's no longer all that special to get a new train.

No. The consist originates out of Hayward Yard for a commute trip to San Francisco. It goes in service at South Hayward. After it completes the trip, instead of sending it back empty, it's in service to South Hayward, where it terminates and returns to Hayward Yard.
