Today we are in San Francisco, California and the Bay Area Rapid Transit System, or BART. It is a fast and frequent commuter rail network, which connects San Francisco, Oakland, Berkeley and many other cities on the East Bay. In San Francisco it runs as a subway under Market Street, which is one of the main thoroughfares of the city.
BART uses the unusual “Indian gauge,” which is a bit wider than standard gauge. As such, the ride on these trains is rather smooth and also, the trains have an amazing acceleration.
The film starts at Daly City station, which is south of San Francisco, where many trains terminate. Only some continue further southbound for San Francisco Airport and Millbrae. The north end of the station has a pedestrian bridge, from which one has a magnificent view over the station approach.
We then head to Glen Park station, which is in a beautiful neighborhood of San Francisco. The underground station is built as a large concrete structure with a bit of daylight falling on the center of the platform.
Enjoy!
