Put together very well. Very accurate depiction of what it’s really like. The camaraderie the hard work, the good food. Living simply. Providing America with beef. Hats off to today’s Cowboys.

I grew up in a railroad town surrounded by ranches and cows. It was just natural to work as a cowhand. From age 15 to 20, this is what I did every summer. There is NOTHING like spending time in the wide open, on a horse, moving/sorting/caring for cattle, haying, fencing, etc... At 48, I am looking to getting back to some sort of farming/ranching/country life. Until you actually do it, you never quite understand the feeling of working so hard you're bone tired yet feeling so fulfilled and satisfied. As for branding, you learn quick to cover the posterior end of a calf with a boot...hahaha. Ranching and the work with it is truly a symbiotic relationship between humans, animals, and mother nature.

Warms my heart to see this. Farmed &Ranched all my life. Not to this extent or size, but still cows, horses, calving, ranching, etc. I can’t anymore, but I live on my grandkids ranch& see it going on, missing the things I used to do😢

Some of my favorite memories and really just a feeling of contentment are when after a hard days work you throw a few bags of sweet feed in the back of the truck and ease out to the feed troughs set up somewhere in the pasture. Then you call your cattle in… “come on girls Whoooo come ooon” dump some feed out, (keeping an eye out for the ones you know are wild) .. by then the cattle are all gathered around you and the suns slowly going down.. you think all is good with the heard.. cool breeze and all that stuff. It’s my happy place.

What got a lot of ag land in my area was lack of succession planning. Land prices are unaffordable to get enough land to be profitable, so will develop into a stewardship owner/tenant farmer situation if ag land is kept in agriculture. Unfortunately for my area a lot of it is developed.

Rance: You want to be the best horseman you can be, I bet you could ride in a rope halter and lead line converted to reins and have a calmer and more responsive horse with subtle cues. The others cowboys would take notice at how much more efficient your work would be and how much more work your horse would be willing to do.
