ACU Trial GB Round 1 The Surrey Cup Trial 2023 Part 2

This is Part 2 of the the two uploads covering The Surrey Cup Trial, Round 1 of the ACU Trial GB national series, staged by the Hookwood Trials Club at the wet and slippery Hookwood Trials Centre, West Horsley, Surrey.
Few venues change character with the weather as much as this one. Overnight rain means the conditions are much tougher than the organisers' intended, and this - together with the revamped system of time allowance to finish the course - means time penalties as well as marks lost on observation are likely to play a part in who wins.

Absolutely fantastic Nigel. I have had this in my Watch Later folder for ages and finally managed to watch it. I have to agree with the comment about preferring to watch outdoor rather than indoor trials. Takes me back to when arr were a lad 😁

Great filming Nigel ! What a day many comments on the the scores and how hard the sections were. Also the low numbers of people competing in the groups. What’s the answer??

Thanks for your comments. Unfortunately, no-one was able to predict the overnight rainfall after the sections were set up. Of all the trials venues, Hookwoods really changes character when it gets wet, and the clay-like soil lubricates the rocks and makes it all the more difficult. Infact I'd say it rides better when there's a heavy ongoing deluge, as at least it washes the mud off the big slabs. There were circa 70 entrants, so given it was a national, I don't think there was any shortage of riders, though of course, the higher classes - Trial GB (6 riders) and Trial 2 (16 riders) - only attract the top-tier riders, whereas Trial Expert is better suited to Centre Experts and hence was the more supported class.

yeh i'd like to think they would struggle, but i doubt it 😉, will we ever see Raga Busto or Bou at the Scott or the SSDT ?, id love to see that.

I think it's Jitsie's theme, bespoke for just Toby. If you note the logos on it, it's in keeping with his support from Montesa (Spain) and Honda (UK) and recognises too his own sponsors. Haven't seen that scheme worn by anyone else.

Alas, not by me. I'm south-based, and doing this for no reward, so the cost of travel & accommodation etc dissuades me from getting to the more far-flung locations of the later rounds, which are mostly in the deep north. I need a few sponsors!
