Acura & Honda Radio COdE Retrieval and Unlock = Car Stereo HELP

After my battery went dead on my '06 TSX I was w/o radio. Multiple calls to dealership "service" dept's did not result in the amount of help your 5 min video provided. I had my radio services restored in under a minute armed with your helpful info. Thanks big time.

This could be a blown fuse under the hook near the car's battery. Fuse may be labeled "Back Up".

Son left lights on in his 2007 Honda Fit Sport. It had been repossessed so we had no code. I used the 6 and 1 together technique and got a display that said serial number with all 8 digits. I called the dealer and they read me the code, which I now have stored both in the vehicle and on the Honda owner website so I will never lose it again. Dealer was going to talk me through getting the serial number, but thanks to you I already had it. Video was amazingly thorough, great work and thanks!

Could not have done it without this video, tried to call the dealership and did not want to help me, they told me I had to go there in person, and they could fix it for me, but they will have to take the radio out. Thanks! Replaced the battery in my 2007 Accord EX V-6 and even having the code, the instructions in the owner's manual were not clear. Had it done in seconds after watching your video!

I got my accord a few weeks ago, a 2003. The guy had a card in the ownership book, but the code was wrong...not sure how the wrong card got there....luckily it was on the left inner part (hidden) of the glove box! Thanks for the video...wouldn't have known to look there otherwise.

I bought a used 2006 Honda Pilot in September 2009, I just had BestBuy install an XM radio FM Modulator & hide all the wires, & of course after all the work & removal the radio would not operate without the radio code which I never received. Much appreciated. This video helped me as well. One note, I found my serial number on the side of the glove compartment but because I had the radio replaced as part of a recall it didn't. The 1 + 6 preset thing worked and I was able to get the code by calling the dealership. Anyway, again thanks for the video.

Error means the wrong code is being put into the stereo too many times. Has the stereo ever been replaced? You should know this if you are the original owner of the vehicle. Otherwise, the stereo may have been replaced at one time and the code was not updated in the vehicle.

I have a 2003 honda accord. My radio locked after changing my battery. I have the code card that came with my car (w/original radio). Ive entered the code several times and keep getting error. Ive also removed the battery terminal to start over again to get "code" to display. What am I doing wrong? Are there additional buttons that I should be pushing once I enter the code?? Should the car be on with engine running, or in first position?? Confused. Pls advise.

If the incorrect code was entered too many times, the display would say so. A blank display could be a blown fuse, there are two fuse boxes, one inside the vehicle the second under the hood near the battery. Check fuses, if this does not help, remove one of the battery terminals for a minute then reconnect. Try the correct code again.

Several things... You may not have the original stereo, so any code card you may have could be incorrect. If the wrong code has been entered or entered incorrectly you can lock the stereo up, "error". Either remove one of the main battery terminals for several minuted then reconnect to reset the stereo. Or wait 1 - 3 hours with the stereo on to unlock on it's own.

Leaving the stereo on for one to three hours or disconnecting the car's battery and reconnecting may bring it back to COdE in the display. This will allow your several more attempts to input the code.

Unbelievably helpful!!!! I had my vehicle over a year with out a radio or dvd player working. Watched this video and within 1 minute it was fully fixed, dvd player too! Saved me $100-$200. Safe in the display means the wrong code has been entered too many times. This may take one to three hours with the stereo on to come back to code mode. I'd suggest contacting the dealership first. In many case they do not charge.

This process does not work for all Honda/Acura stereos. The stereo must display code for a chance of this process working.

I don't know Vauxhall's policy. Many US car dealers will provide the code when asked. Other will have to verify all information before charging for the code. Good luck.

I plugged up a car charger into the power source and I think it knocked off the radio. Is there any way to prevent this from happening? I have my code. When I enter it nothing happens. Code does not flash when i turn car on.

This could be a bad power adaptor. Or, if you are plugging the same device into the socket, there may be a short in the device blowing the fuse.

Your local dealership should be able to provide the code if you provide the serial number of the stereo.

You will have to wait with the stereo on for 10 minutes to one hour. The stereo will return to "COdE". Incorrect code entered will lock the stereo up again. Check code card with serial number to stereo. If they match, this is a stereo problem.

Just done this for my 02 civic. The battery got disconnected and required the radio to be reset, I had no radio code with the car, so I turned on ignition, pressed no1 and 6 together then turned on radio with both no's depressed, a code came up that I wrote down. Phoned a honda dealer service dept. Gave reg no and radio code that flashed up, and they supplied me with the pass code. Typed it in and, Voila... Radio is now working. Hope this helps someone.

I have a 94 legend, the stereo works fine, but when i put in my cassette from one day to the other the volume is really low, I was able to fix it once (i dont quite know how) but one day again the volume on the cassette was lower than usual. any tips for this?

The video goes through how to enter the code. If the code does not work, this could be for one of several reasons. You may have the wrong code, check the code against the serial number of the stereo. Or, the stereo is defective. If the stereo was working fine before disconnecting the battery, I'd guess you have the wrong code.

Error code may be displayed for a couple of reasons. One, stereo work but will not play a CD, - display will show an error code. Two, sterero does not turn on, asking for code, incorrect code entered will give an error code. Check code against serial number of stereo. Code still does not enter, disconnect battery for a couple of minutes and restart.

Disconnect one of the battery terminals for several minutes, then reconnect. This can reset the error problem. Or, the radio will reset if left on for an hour.

Try the #1 and #6 while pushing the stereo on. Check this serial number against your code card. Or, if you have navigation, you may be using the wrong code.

With the Nakamichi unit... I wish you good luck with this one With the Pioneer unit... With the age of this vehicle it is usually a drive belt problem. There are three belts in this mechanism. With age and heat, these belts turn to tar. No easy answer on this problem, stereo needs technical help.

Sometimes the dealership may provide a code with a "0", it is the wrong code. No code for Acura or Honda will have a zero. Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Porsche and VW's may have a zero in the code.

You have the wrong stereo code for Honda and Acura. Audi, MBZ, Porsche and some Ford (Blaujunk) may need a zero.

You can do the 1&6 + power process, then call Honda/Acura at 1-800-999-1009 to get the code. If the car is 2001 and older, you may have to pull out the radio to get the serial# if you can't find that sticker , then call.

The point of the code is to stop thieft. The code will only have to be used if power is removed from the stereo, either disconnecting the car battery or removing and reinstalling the stereo. As long as power is supplied to the stereo, it will continue to work. There are two powers to the radio, constant and switched through ignition. Constant power will keep memory and the code.

Useful video, but when when this doesn't work, (display still shows 'Err_'), switch off stereo, disconnect both the battery and the rear window antenna (top of window - passenger side). Wait 3 minutes. Reconnect battery. Start car. Switch on stereo (should now say 'CodE'). Leave car running for at least one hour with 'CodE' displayed before entering the code again. like magic!!! Reconnect antenna. A frustrating problem - I hope this helps

I have a 2008 Acura MDX. I replaced the battery this weekend. I have my original 5 digit code. When I start enterring it, "error" comes up. After several times trying, it locks out. I tried removing battery cables and that does restart the opportunity to unlock, but the same thing keeps happening. I see on other emails that removing the antenna connection could help. Please help. You never know how important the radio is until you don't have it.

The stereo must say COdE in the display before you can enter a code. If this does not show in the display, check ALL fuses. There are two to the stereo, the first is in the kick panel at the left of the driver's foot in most cases, the second is under the hood, "Back Up". If the fuses are good, check to make sure the stereo is connected. All these things look good, you have a bad stereo.

Serial numbers can be found by removing the equipment. You could try calling the dealership with the VIN.
