For pure driving pleasure, Honda nailed it with the NSX. An exotic with the reliability of Honda engineering and parts. I’d love to own one someday.

i miss my NA1 (mine was a 95 targa)... but nostalgia is crazy because i actually love my current DB8 more hahah. The NA1/2 was definitely a game changer though, for both the brand and supercar segment. It's crazy that it was the intro of the NSX to finally be able to drive a supercar with your legs and feet straight forward instead of having the front wheels push your feet towards the middle of the car. IMO, the sweet spot for the 1st gen NSX is the 97-01 NA2 in the slightly darker silverstone color and you get the newer 6spd and 3.2L but still kept the popup lights lol.

@@Drive_Culture it was originally berlina black with tan interior but i wrapped it white because i really wanted a grand prix white one but didnt want to pay the extra "GPW tax" lol. I even brought it out twice at the AHM internal car show before pandemic put a stop to that haha

I basically am learning in this car. I took 4 hours of lessons, got the car, and now I have 4 hrs of experience in this, it is so fun. I guess two things you didn't note are: 1. the bite point of the clutch is really high up, so you can change gears quick in this car. 2. there's a noob sensor in the car - basically when you are about to stall, a soft chime will go like 'ding' telling u to hit the gas or clutch.

Thanks for the comment & feedback! Congrats on the NSX! What color combo do you have? Yes, I agree about the bite point! Didn’t know about the noob sensor! 😂 Hope you subscribed to come back for more! 👍🏾

@Drive_Culture the noob sensor is more of a click than a ding. It's like the turn signal, except it only sounds once

I owned a 91 silver from 97-05 and my current 92 red I bought in 2008. This is a fantastic car car! The power may not be much but the NSX as a “package” still makes it a quick car. The one thing that puts it down a little is the tall gearing. In my current car, I had the JDM short gears and Type R final drive installed. The short gears make the 1-2 shift much sooner and you can reach redline in second gear well below the 82mph of the stock gearing. The final drive shortens all the gears by another 4%-5%. This makes the car way more usable for in town driving. The revs are about 150 more when cruising on the highway which isn’t that noticeable but the benefits of shorter gearing transform the car. My NSX has 36K miles and is very reliable for being 33 years old. I had the timing belt service done by an NSX expert tech and the car is a blast to drive. Never parting with this one and it tripled in value over what I paid for it!

Very nice review! Thanks. You nailed it when you said the NSX is a pure driving experience. The handling, the visceral sound of the engine, even the comfort are second to none. FYI - the battery is located just behind the spare tire up front to keep a low center of gravity and balance the front/rear weight ratio a bit. There was also a CD changer option in addition to that nostalgic cassette deck. I have the 6-disc changer located in the trunk. Also, the titanium key cost me $95 bucks but looks really cool. Heading over to watch your NC1 video next!

The NSX never had a hydraulic power steering system, so no hydraulic power steering fluid in any NSX. The 1991-1994 manual transmission and 1999 Zanardi Edition cars had manual steering, no power steering of any kind, so that's why steering requires so much effort at parking lot speeds. The 1991-1994 automatic transmission cars and all subsequent 1995-2005 models (except for the Zanardis) had an electric power steering system that came before the electric power steering system used in the S2000. Another common misconception is that the metal key is made out of titanium. It's actually made out of Monel, which is nickel-copper alloy. The misconception gets perpetuated by lots of people who incorrectly refer to the NSX key as a titanium key.

The steering rack is manual on this car. The nsx never came with hydraulic steering. It was either manual (91-94) or electrically power assisted (95-05) years.
@Drive_Culture
@Drive_Culture Ай бұрын
Thanks for the comment & feedback! Yep, I misspoke on the hydraulic steering. Turns out for the US market, the 91-94 5-speed cars were manual steering (like the one I drove). The 4-speed automatic cars were power steering & then from 95 all versions went to power steering! The one exception being the 99 Zanardi model that still had manual steering for weight reduction. Hope you subbed to come back for more!

Thanks for the comment Modern supercars are quite different now thanks to the launch of this car! They are more reliable, do a better job of carrying stuff and are even somewhat fuel efficient while still being super powerful! You’re right though, that they’re still super expensive! Hope you subscribe to come back from more!
