13 RDX front wheel drive, 94K miles. I performed this tranny drain and fill and also changed out inline tranny oil filter behind front driver wheel well. I bought 4 quarts DW1 and was expecting for a lil over 3 to come out but actually 4 quarts of old fluid came out and I had to plug back up because all I had was 4 quarts. 🤔. Nice content man!

Thanks for watching. Yea, I just did a manual transmission fluid change on a 2018 Honda accord 1.5T The dealer said I need 1.9Liters. Luckily, I always measure the contents and I took out 2.2L.

I just bought a 2015 with 67k. Mine has a dip-stick and find zero reason to deal with accessing that top fill cap. I just fill through the dip-stick and done.

Hello, maybe I have a different 2013 RDX... but my 2013 Acura RDX comes with a dipstick and I can re-fill the AFT via that dipstick tube.

The rdx he's doing its the first gen rdx until 2012, rdx 2013 are 3 gen and you right you can refill the fluid thru the dipstick tube.

2:15 I've been using those same blue recycling containers for my oil changes simply becase they hold a lot of oil. My other 2 cars take 12.5 and 8.5 liters of engine oil.

Don't forget about the transmission filter. It's a bit tedious to get to but completely doable. You have to remove the airbox and battery tray. But just like oil filters transmission filters get worn out as well and need to be replaced.

Very well done! Do you have any idea about changing a new filter as well? There is a so-called “inline filter” for the transmission, but what I heard is that even some dealers are not aware of the existence of such a filter, as a result they only offer to ‘flush’ the fluid without changing the filter.

Yes. Acura RDX, MDX etc. do have an inline filter. It is not part of the service procedure as long as you do your transmission drain and fill on time. You can change that filter. It is on the front lower side of the transmission and its black. Do not ever "flush" any honda/acura transmissions, only drain and fill like in the video. Thank you for your question.

Jay The Mechanic Thanks for your reply. I have a few follow-up questions: 1. Do you need to disassemble the battery and the air-intake or some other components in the engine bay in order to access the transmission filter for an exchange? Someone did that for Acura TL and MDX on KZbin, it looks like a real pain in the ass to disassemble all those parts. Can you somehow access that filter from the wheel-well? I am talking about this particular 2nd generation RDX configuration. 2. Do you do the so-called “3 times 3” drain and fill? Because a large portion of the old transmission fluid cannot be simply drained - that are trapped in the torque converter or other components. 3. What’s the mileage of this RDX when you did the drain and fill? I appreciate your comments.

@@marshalman6970 question# 1...simple answer yes. it is very difficult to access from the wheel well if not impossible, Question#2 It is always recommended to keep the transmission oil clean for honda/acura vehicles. Don't wait until it is dirty to change it. If you keep it clean and do the on schedule maintenance, than you don't have to do the 3+3. #3 I don't remember. It was a customer vehicle. Jay, the reason why i haven't done my Acura RDX 2010 is, I had a camry some years ago and i tried changing the transmission oil with same method and that was the end of that car. The gear stopped shifting. So, what did i do wrong then and what will give me the confidence to to try it now..Thanks

It doesnt make sense. If the Camry was fine before the transmission oil change and it was bad immediately after? or was it bad after a few months? Its possible the camry already had problems with the transmission? Or what I see sometimes ( even from the dealership) is that the technician forgets to put oil back into the transmission (it happens alot more than you think).

For Toyota’s it isn’t as simple as draining it & filling it up. There’s a procedure u need to follow for Toyota’s as most of those don’t have a dipstick but a straw that measures the fluid level. You can find a video on it here just do a quick search.

Thank you for your question. Run the car to operating temperature and check the level with the car engine running. Operating temperature is usually until the cooling fan turns on while in idle or about 10 minutes of driving.

The idea is to keep the oil clean by doing it on or before the recommended time. If the oil is very dirty do it more than two times, driving the vehicle in between changes.

you didn't change all the fluid, you only drained the pan. the transmission takes 10 quarts for a full flush..

Yes, that is correct. This is the proper procedure for Honda transmission fluid service. It is recomended that you do this procedure more than once. It is NEVER reccomended to do a full flush.
