The slide pins (the accordion rubber covered 'nuts') must be removed, buffed, grease removed and grease applied (not too much or the pin will not go back in ... no space left). The rubber covers must be replaced. If they are torn, or in anything other than perfect shape, water will enter the slide area and the pin will corrode and eventually not slide effortlessly. If the pin binds even a little, the brake pad will not slide and your brakes will wear quickly.

Why did you open brake master cylinder cap ? Did you do a break fluid change ?
@jayhockley8841
@jayhockley8841 3 жыл бұрын
it allows the caliper to be compressed , back in by allowing the brake fluid to go back in the master cylinder . Just be sure and re check the brake fluid level ( in the Master Cylinder ) and put the cap back on . ( he forgot to mention this in the video )

Why do you need to open the brake fluid reservoir? I was watching another video and the guy just pumped the brake pedal a few times and said you don't need to bleed the brakes after. Thanks and good video
@CarsNToys
@CarsNToys 8 жыл бұрын
+Ahsm There's no need to bleed the brakes because air has not entered the brake system. It's a habit of mine to remove the cap to the master cylinder when pressing the cylinder back into the caliper. I don't want excess pressure to build up.

Worked great on my 2007 Acura Tl Type-S - thanks!!! I used more generic Super Lube 21030 Synthetic Grease (not the one formulated for brakes), but it's rated for up to 450F and there's no squealing when braking in forward or reverse, so so far, so good.

One thing I would suggest before you start any work, drive the car and take special attention to how far the brake pedal goes down and how it feels. Maybe even take a video so you have a reference to compare so when you're finished and if the pedal feels squishy/or going down too far, you can have a reference to what it used to be normally and not be second guessing like I'm doing

Pro tip: you can compress the cylinders while the calipers are still on the car by wedging a pry bar or large flathead screwdriver between the rotor and the pads and skip the step with the c clamp.

I hate to nit pick but I'm going to anyway. You are way to liberal with that grease, if you get any on that pad you will have no brakes. And I'm not sure you really need it on the back of the pads at all, just on the tracks that the pads will run on. And you should also use bearing grease on those main caliper bolts before you put them back in, if you ever want to get them back out that is. And lastly, you tightened your wheel on in the wrong patter. You want to tighten the bolts opposite each other, not in a circle, in this instance it would be a star pattern. Tightening the lug bolts in a circular pattern is a good way to end up with warped rotors.
@CarsNToys

I appreciate the feedback. The repair manual recommends grease on the rear of the pad to prevent the caliper piston from sticking. Cheers.

That was very good video, and I appreciate the amount of the detail you have put into the video. I have ones question for you, I see that you have replaced the brake pads but not the rotors. How can you determine if you need to replace the rotors? The mechanics always suggest to replace the rotors along with your brake pads. Is that true?
@CarsNToys
@CarsNToys 9 жыл бұрын
Mr.Logic23 If they're uneven, warped or too thin then they'll need replacement. (If the rotor thickness is below 7.5mm then it's a good idea to replace them)

Very helpful. Even if just in planning the steps. I just did both front and rear brake along with rotors. The bolted on rotors were a pain. Had to drill out the counter sunk hardware. What a pain, but the rest was a pretty straight forward.
