I encourage anyone that sees this video to get a Takamine that is Japan made by their master luthiers. I have several and only play Takamine guitars, and have been endorsed by several high end manufacturers but the high end Takamine models are incredible and nothing beats the CTP preamps for plugged in sound coupled with the Triax pickup. I consistently get praise from musicians when they hear my guitars. The japan models are made by true master luthiers and show in fit finish and sound. I play a Nashville series TAN360 and a P5JC both have CTP and Triax pickups

billy blaze I have the same p6jc absolute master class guitar, and through a mic like he demonstrated would crucify both these 2. Plugged in different story. That is where my p7nc with tri-ax (l. R. Baggs disguised) is King. But Bruce Springsteen uses the P6j on stage and it is very good. Can not compare cutaway with non cutaway. Never!

There is a lot of bias here. The Martin is in tune, the Tak isn't. Different strings, vastly different price tiers, even the playing was lackluster on the Tak. Pretty much ANY Japanese made Tak would blow that Martin right out of the water in every category but you decided to compare a budget G series Tak to a Martin costing 10x as much and you didn't even do that fairly. "Rigged" is the word that comes to mind :)

For the record to my last comment, I was fortunate to have two Martins in my custody for twelve months a Martin 000-ECHF Belleza Nera Guitar and 00028 EC signature sorry to say but the Takamine was always the go to guitar no matter how hard I tried to fall in love with the two Martins.

I was looking at the 000-28 EC at Sweetwater when I got my EF75M-TT. I had about $6k to play with but I wasn't seeing anything that grabbed me, so I decided to search everything over $3k. That's when I spotted the Tak. I went back and forth comparing it with everything between $3k and $6k and it just won out every time in every category. I then looked at boutique brands in the same price range and the Tak still won out. It's that nice of a guitar :)

Hey, thanks for your review. You're right on spot...I've had the same experience with Taks and Martins. When you A/B them you can tell three major differences: volume, low end, and tonal fullness. The Taks are quieter and less bassy, they sort of fail to Martins in the overall sound projection. But once you start recording them with vocals, you can tell that they (Martins) really interfere with the upper mids of vocals [I need to say that I haven't touched the top-end either of the brands]. If I just play the guitar without singing, my Martin fills the stage with luscious acoustic overtones , but when I need the acoustic guitar to sit in the mix where it belongs not messing up with vocals, then Takamine is my choice. I've had this struggle for a couple years now. In comparison like yours my guitars would sound exactly the same. Martin seems to deliver a more balanced and articulate tone across the full range of audible spectrum, whereas the Takamine wins in the mix with electric bass and drums, because although lacking in solo acoustic richness it keeps the main punch in its strumming midrange. So I keep going back and forth between them depending on the application at hand.
@emergencynurse02
@emergencynurse02 8 жыл бұрын
+Евгений Пантелеев Exactly my point why I would keep the Tak, for stage and performance....that said, the Martin encourages me to sing more often, I'm not a good singer....but i'm practicing more with that Martin....The Tak is more an accompaniment, where the martin demands to be soloed, or played as the entire presentation rather than the accompaniment
@bekeneel
@bekeneel Жыл бұрын
But what you guys forget is not every Takamine is the same, especially the sound, just like with Martins.. Also a good high end martin will cost you a fortune while Takamine has some great guitars for like half the price, for example the TF360SBG which they don't make anymore, was as good as the Martin HD28V. Now you can doubt that but, u'd 1st have to hear it then.. Most takamine guitars are cheaper ones & focused on acousto-electric too so it's not a real comparison with Martin. @@emergencynurse02

The Takamine G70 and G90 series are great guitars for the money but the Japanese built are amazing guitars I had a sante fe NEX it was amazing and the Japanese made one's definitely compete well with Martins if not they beat Martins in a lot of instances, but the thing with takamine is no matter the money you get the great guitar and the new g series is a lot better than the previous ones that's just my opinion, also if you want to know the Takmine GN90ce and GD90ce are made in Japan but I picked the GN93ce over it just preference but all taks are great and they blow anything way when they are plugged in.

These are two totally different guitars. There is no best. It depends on what you're after. I have a Tak and in general, I think most of their instruments are brighter with less mids and lows. That's perfect in some situations, but overall I would say Martin is more versatile. I'm actually looking at Martin, Taylor and Gibsons right now, all of which have considerably better mid and bottom end. Guitars are not like socks... one size doesn't fit all.

I realize that your comparison was in 2016. You should compare the Martin 000-14 madagascar to the newly released (2016) Takamine EF75m-tt....(madagascar with a torrefied adirondack top). I did and there is NO comparison! The Takamine walks away from the Martin.
@ShamanicSavant

I did and bought the EF75M-TT. It beats the Martin by a mile in EVERY category. The top is torrefied select grade sitka spruce tho, maybe the Martin uses Adirondack? It's now 2023 and I'm still enamored with it. I'd put mine up against any OM guitar from any maker at any price and just smile :)

@@ShamanicSavant I agree, John. The 12-fret Takamine EF740ttfs (Sapele/torrefied Sitka) Venetian cutaway model is also a wonderful guitar and is equal to or better than any OM I've played (Martin, Bourgeois, Arnold, Preston-Thomson...). This is especially true given that the EF740 can be had for under $1800-2,000 usd!

@@CC-xt1bw Anything from the TT series is a great guitar. Wasn't sure how I felt about the TT thing at first, but I can't argue with how it sounds. They used really nice wood for it, not just average spruce that's been half or twice baked like some. Mine has zero runout and great silking over the entire top. The sun kissed color is kind of nice too. The other top end OM model I was really impressed with is the EF7M-LS, solid RW back and sides and a premium Lutz spruce top. It's the one I would have gotten if my timing hadn't been perfect in nabbing one of the forty or so EF75M-TTs that made it to the USA. I wanted my second acoustic to be one I could hold up to the cork sniffers with genuine pride, and that's exactly what I got :)
@CC-xt1bw
@CC-xt1bw Жыл бұрын
@@ShamanicSavant I had a EF7M-LS and it was good, but not close to the EF740tt. Mind you, the EF7 is a 14 fret and the EF740 is a 12 fret, which to me, makes a world of difference to the sound. I've played my 740 against pre-war Martins, Larsons, and a bunch of "high-end" modern builders like Bourgeois, Santa Cruz, Preston Thompson, Beneteau, DeJong, Collings to name just a few, and the 740tt to my ears is better sounding (more resonant, better sustain, note clarity....). I've owned well over 80-100 guitars including the best of the pre-war era (Martins like a '30, 000-45; '29 OM-28; '37 14 fret 00-21) and I'll take the 740tt and put the cash difference in the bank!

This one also has a three piece scarf joint neck, at the heel and headstock, I almost didn't buy it because of that. But After I scooted to every Guitar center in my neighborhood (Detroit Area), this was the only one that was made in Korea, besides the others, and every Guitar Center had one at the time, was Chinese manufacture. All of the Chinese ones were pretty crappy. fit and finish was not so good and the frets were different. There were other details I can't remember, but more than just a few corners were cut. So if you looking to get one...try and find a Korean made one ….they are different. I got sold on Cedar after my mom brought home a hand made Spanish guitar from Spain. Very rich sounding and warm, yet vibrant. Cedar top and Mahogany back and sides, Cocobolo fretboard. I forget the maker, but its from Seville.

I have yet to pick up a takimine guitar that I liked. A local music shop has them for around $1,000, not sure which model, but the ibanez and other lower end brand acoustics they have always sound much better to me. I think these only got popular because Garth Brooks played and endorsed them. Garth gave them an open door as a top brand guitar, but in my opinion takamine did not run with the ball, instead they dropped it and it shows in their poor sound quality! I have a 1974 Martin D-35, a 1991 Yairi DY90 ( basically a Martin D45 copy) and a 1970 something Ovation and they all have top end sound quality.

There were famous musicians using Taks on stages all across America long before Garth Brooks. His signature model is one of the ugliest Japanese made Taks IMO. You either love or hate that sound hole, and I suppose a lot of that depends on how you feel about Garth Brooks and signature guitars in general. All the Japanese made Taks have outstanding build and sound quality and it's only gotten better over time. Not sure what you're on about :)
