I find the negativity puzzling. Don’t we all understand that Lee and Pete are just doing their jobs, presenting to us new products to consider? Plus they are doing it quite well, providing fun and humor along with great information, and giving all of this to us at the convenience of watching it on our phones! I love these videos. I have made several determinations on purchases due to research conducted partially from their channel. I say, “Thank you, Andertons, for the content! Keep it coming.” If people don’t appreciate the content, then don’t watch it.
@basiltiffani88504 ай бұрын
I don't think any negativity is directed at Lee and Pete. I think people are just tired of overdrive pedals, and especially expensive overdrive. There's a new one everyday covering the same ground as a 1000 other units already on the market. Granted, people keep buying them. But people are also tired of seeing so much content on them.

Pete's order of green, blue, and then yellow definitely sounded the best combined! Also, the next pedals Origin should make are the Halcyon Black (Rat clone), Halcyon Orange (Boss DS-1 clone), and the Halcyon Black Orange (Metal Zone clone). It would also be cool to make the Halcyon Red, Halcyon Purple/Violet, and Halcyon Pink, but I'm not sure what famous pedals they could copy with those colors. Maybe the Angry Charlie for the Halcyon Red, though I'm not sure it's nearly as famous as even the Rat or Metal Zone. And maybe for the Halcyon Purple pedal, if they want to get even more obscure and show Anderton's some love, they could make a clone of Pete's The Dane pedal.

I’ve always placed my Klon style overdrive after other gain pedals. I didn’t know that was a weird thing to do. It just always sounded best to me. 😳
@sundaynightdrunk4 ай бұрын
If you use it as a relatively clean boost, you're following Mick and Dan's advice from That Pedal Show unintentionally. They're die-hard "boost after overdrive" guys, and since trying my setup that way, I agree. Boost before overdrive just boosts the overdrive, where boost after overdrive boosts _the amp,_ which is generally the intention of a boost pedal.
@mariodriessen97404 ай бұрын
@@sundaynightdrunk : Indeed, but I do like to switch things up a little and because I am addicted to good overdrives I have quite a few of them on my board and they seem to be all over the place. When it comes to the Klon, I actually do not use it as a clean boost, because every now and then I use it as the only gain pedal. And when I do I want to hear that tight growl that it is capable of giving. Before the Klon (I mean earlier in the signal chain) I have the Greer Lightspeed. Now… most of the time I use the Lightspeed to give the gain pedals before that one some extra power. The Lightspeed is perfect for that because it doesn’t colour the sound in any way. So I give it a tiny bit more volume, a little bit more grit and some extra bite with the tone control. It doesn’t matter what pedal you use earlier in the chain, because it ALWAYS works. The outcome is very predictable and that’s one of the many reasons why I love the Greer Lightspeed. However, I also love the sound of my amp (plus the old RC Booster, which is my always on pedal) and here the same thing applies. Switching on the Lightspeed gives me that little extra oomph. So THAT’S a sound I use a lot. But when I need a solo boost I step on my Klon clone which, like I wrote, is NOT clean. But that’s exactly how I want it. It gives me a more mid focused push to cut through and the gain gives me the sustain I want. But of course, sometimes you DON’T want all that sustain, so for those moments I have other options. Needless to say that my board is ‘a little’ over the top. In fact, sometimes I feel ashamed for having it. Sometimes I replace something old with something new and I’m super excited. My fellow guitarist is very much like me, so he shares my excitement (he’s actually even worse than I am), but the other guys and especially the two female singers in the band, they have absolutely no idea what the f*** we’re doing. They don’t even hear the difference!!! 🤷🏻😅 A while ago I decided I should build a mini board with just a handful of gain pedals, a tuner, and an always on delay plus an always on reverb. I wanted this for a few different reasons: 1- My big board is more expensive than a good amp AND a good guitar. Here in the Netherlands there’s a stupid tradition that started in the late seventies, early eighties, where the audience show their appreciation by throwing beer. Not necessarily directed towards the band, but still, having all these expensive pedals lying there unprotected at the front of the stage, that doesn’t always seem like the best idea. 2- Sometimes we play venues that are so small that it just takes up too much space. 3- I’m 56yo, lost a leg 10 years ago, have a hernia and I live in a place where I need to take a flight of stairs for every single thing I can carry at once. It’s just too much. Hence my idea to go for an extremely small pedalboard with just the bare minimum. I already had most of the pedals lying around at my place. Call me stupid, but I always wanted to do something with the three gain pedals that Xotic became famous for. I just absolutely love the distinct sound of each of them. My board would thus have three Xotic pedals and fohur TC Electronic mini pedals. This is already taking me much longer than I thought it would, so I’ll just sum them up for you. Here we go (X = Xotic and TC = TC Electronic), signal flow from first to last: X RC Booster > X AC Booster > X BB Preamp > TC Mini Spark > TC Polytune Mini > TC Flashback Mini > TC HOF Mini. And a powersupply of course. So I needed a small board for the pedals, but it never felt good enough. At least, not until I saw a small case, specifically made for this purpose and so I bought it. Unfortunately I was too stupid to actually measure things. I bought what I thought was a small case, because it looked like a small case. In reality the case was huge. WAAAAAY too huge. And because it is too big anyway, I decided to cram in as much as I could. This was also the perfect excuse for me to purchase a couple more overdrives and other stuff. I basically built a second big board. If this board turns out to be better sounding than the other one, then I’m afraid I’ll find myself at the starting point of an existential crisis. Again… 😰 But…. I love every bit of it. 😬😬😬

I can't believe I'm considering paying more for my drive pedal than I did for my guitar- but once, just once- I'd like to see how it feels to buy what I want without considering price. Price, whether I like it or not, is the biggest deciding factor in everything I buy. I've played guitar for over 30 years now- and never owned one that costed more than 500 bucks. I've played countless gigs with those 500 dollar guitars though, played with Shenandoah once- not a single person ever said anything about my guitar. My first cousin was the lead guitarist for Shenandoah- that's why I got to play with them- and he's standing by me with a Gibson Les Paul while I'm playing the lead ride on my Squier. It sounded great. I was very pleased and impressed with my little Classic Vibe- and so was Jimmy and the rest of the band- they commented on it after we played, how good it sounded. I'm buying this drive- to hell with it.

But I own a couple of Origin Effects pedals and they are all top shelf units and perform well both at home and out live so I expect the same will be true for this one as well.

I wonder if there’s a dual pedal that does this on one power plug.

major cudos for pete and lee continuing to make these videos with zeal, despite the majority of the comments always seeming to be various forms of sarcastic outrage at how “crazy expensive” the gear sometimes is. if that’s the lasting impression, I can assure you all that you are not the target market for this gear. prices are inflating world wide ofcourse, but comparitively music equipment has increased in quality while managing to stay pretty constant in price if you adjust for inlfation rates. we’re spoiled for choice nowadays and there’s always a more affordable option if you want it. it’s just funny to me how negative people are, how can you be after watching lee and pete? it’s beyond me.

The people hating on these pedals have probably never tried Origin's stuff. I have the Cali 76 Stacked Edition and it's soooooo good. It doesn't matter how you set it, every single position just makes you sound better. It gives you your guitar tone but just thicker, warmer and more present. Further, you can't feel it. A lot of compressors feel squidgy and laggy which puts me off and reduces my enjoyment of playing the guitar. With a lot of pedals, before you get to about 10 O'Clock on a dial, they do nothing and then after 2 O'Clock they get fizzy or noisy. Origin are handmade in the UK and are just really, really high quality. Just turning the knobs is really pleasing. Yes, they're expensive, but i think you get good value for your money.

Sounds like you're mad at your financial situation. I feel bad for you. Good luck.

There must be an awful lot of retired gullible accountants, civil servants, GPs, solicitors etc out there, who want to explore their fantasy rock guitarist inner-self, willing to shell out £250 for a drive pedal.

Well, of course. Do you really think that the guitar industry would be sustainable if not for the people who buy the kit and will never use it on stage?
