@Paul Odenfield there's this older less common southern drawl that hovers almost on British sounding. I've always called it the magnolia southern accent. I think maybe the character played by Olympia Dukakis in steal magnolias was invoking it. I lived in Georgia for a number of years. It lingered there, but not strongly.
@somasubstance4 жыл бұрын
@I live in Georgia. So I hear the local dialects every day. The older ladies at my parent's church spoke similarly to the way the character speaks in steel magnolias. I personally call it the magnolia south accent. Also: why are you being so critical of my personal anecdote. Are you doing alright?
@ameliaaaron-king69434 жыл бұрын
@@somasubstance , British actors can easily slip into a Southern accent, of course everyone knows that Scarlett O'Hara, Vivian Lee was British. You're right,you dont hear that beautiful accent anymore. I do think it referred to an accent, not a dialect.

I had a problem with one of my mother's doctors when she was dying over bed sores. Total idiot from a 3rd world country. Anytime you asked a question he would babble something impossible to understand because his English was so bad, then cop an attitude. One day in the hospital I'd had enough of his BS. I cornered him and called him some choice ethnic slurs. I thought the nurses there were going to faint. I told them I wanted an American doctor because his English was so bad that he was useless. One nurse said to me his English was fine but he had such a thick accent that it was hard to understand. I'm like WTF is the difference? She got an American doctor, and all the bed sores healed.

@dragonclaws, you said you want to solve your problems by staying away from people, rather than you have solved your problems by staying away from people. Does that mean it’s not working? Avoidance is not usually an effective way to respond to problems. Here are some options that are more likely to be effective: »looking ahead, planning ahead » being able to tolerate not having a problem resolved immediately » problem solving, negotiation » working to understand more than trying to make yourself understood » accepting that communication is difficult » knowing that just because there's a problem that doesn't mean someone is at fault » being willing to listen w/o defending yourself » building strong relationships » focus on doing for others » finding the meaning/sense of the situation » humor - helps one stay humble » sticking up for yourself (w/o attacking others) » being able to see yourself honestly » staying physically healthy » channel unacceptable desires into socially acceptable goals

This guy apparently is gay and is living in an area where they think they can pray or medicate gay away. It doesn’t work that way. My little brother is gay and it was so evident from the time he was little. My mom was ok with it but my macho gun slinging dad was totally against it and wouldn’t talk to him for years. He is a successful attorney now and lives with a wonderful male who is teacher here at one of the University. They are both very active in the community and do a lot of volunteer work. My dad will be at family parties etc. but he’s still cold. We tend to ignore him. We all enjoy ourselves and accept each other as we are. I feel really bad when this happens to gay people. They don’t ask to be born that way. I remember the year my niece was in 6th grade and she said Auntie we think Tom (not his real name) is gay. Meaning her and a couple girlfriends. I said I agree. I thought so for some time. They started to include him in their group of friends without ever saying anything about his sexual orientation. They all went to school games together, shopping, etc. He graduated from the same college as 2 of the girls and my niece says their still all friends. It made me so happy that inside of stigmatizing him they just accepted him as he was. He turned out to be a really nice young man.

@@tomitstube not at all but being 'liberal' is more associated with accepting non-traditional lifestyles like homosexuality than is 'conservatism' or even 'libertarianism', correct? My point was that while I am not a 'liberal' (ie, part of a political identity that one would expect would feel sympathy for gays) I nonetheless do feel sorry for this kid. That is all. And as a post-script, no, I don't think being for classical liberalism is anything to be ashamed of at all. In fact, the U.S. Constitution and most of western civilization owe everything to the triumphs and champions of classical liberalism from John Locke to Thomas Jefferson, from Swift and Rousseau to Marx, Heiddeger, Hegel and C.S. Lewis to Burke and on and on. I even think neo-liberals like John Kennedy and LBJ were often on the right track as evidenced by their necessary, just, rightly-approached and well-debated push for the Civil Rights Act in 1960s. Where I think it is shaemful to be a 'liberal' in 2020 is if one means by such that he or she is actually a part of the far-left horde of 'liberals' who are substitute slogans over facts, identity politics over the substance of a person's ideas, buzzwords and shout-downs over open debate. Some of these trained parrots do call themselves 'progressive liberals' but are in fact social Marxist REGRESSIVES and yes they should be ashamed, imo.

in fact, in fact. Some studies brought us from 30 years of genetic and behavioural tests, assert that the feeling of being "boy" or "girl" depends strongly not from the genetic setting, but from the contact the foetus have or not have had with some biological precursors of hormones.
