Music by Samuel Barber from his String Quartet op.11
Guitar notation (Score/Tab): www.soundslice...
Original version is in B flat minor but this adaptation is transposed a semitone up to B minor which makes it more practical guitarristically and also easier to read on the score without all the altered notes of the B flat key. You can always tune the guitar one step down if you want to keep the same tone than the original.
The motivation for this video came after watching YT pianist @SequoiaSounds who recorded his version and I couldn't help myself to work out his piano arrangement for solo guitar.
I didn't think of recording it since there must be literally hundreds of recordings of the same piece floating around on KZbin (even though not so many for guitar) but, nevermind, it's a solid saddest of sad pieces so here it is for you to enjoy?
Audio cheat: I had to add an overdub (very blatant!) of the harmonics at the seventh fret on that final chord of the climax since I didn't nailed them on this take. Ah well...
Easter Egg: I didn't notice when I recorded it but there's actually a moment when you can actually hear an elephant roaring sound... Was it an accidental tribute to David Lynch's movie where this piece of music plays a crucial part or just the noisy neighbour from upstairs dragging furniture around again? You decide.
Here's the piano recording of the adagio on SequoiaSounds' channel:
• Samuel BARBER - Adagio...
It's one of his first videos but be sure to check out the AMAZING piano work on his channel.
And here's the original string quartet by Barber that contains the adagio (2nd movement). The whole work is phenomenal too:

There's also a very nice version of this piece done by Larry Coryell in duet with saxophonist Wayne Shorter on Coryell's album "American Odissey" (don't have link for that, sorry).
