Now I understand why Russian Ballet (or Vaganova trained), dancers are amongst the best in the world. The strength, control, musicality, cleanest techniques and perfectly in tune with each other...STUNNINGLY GRACEFUL. I AM SURE THAT WHEN DANCING ROLES, PERSONALITY AND EMOTIONS WILL COME. BUT AS CENTRE IN CLASS EXCERCISES AND ADAGIO COMBINATIONS, OR ENCHAINEMENTS(AND THINKING OF CORPS, AT ENTRY LEVEL, WHEN YOU NEED THAT CONFORMITY...99.9% FLAWLESS. AND BEAUTIFUL.

Absolutely Brilliant! I hated, HATED Adagio classes! Granted, I was thankful for them afterwards, but Arg! I wanted to be soaring! (What dancer Doesn’t?) Honestly, these classes (although not not Nearly the Russian equivalent ) gave me such power to do ANY type of dance ballet inclusive. Amazing how your “Attitude” changes with time. (I know bad pun! I couldn’t help myself, I’m old! Give me a break!)

I always wonder, who are these people who put "dislike" to these dedicated, extraordinary talented teachers and students :)))))))))) Is it those who were expelled for academic failure? Or those who do not know how to teach ballet? Who are there failed people?

I believe when the iron curtain came down and ballet dancers, teachers and professionals in the West started to see their first glimpses of the ballet world in Russia, they were caught unawares. They had a lot of catching up to do. Along with the catching up, was an undertone of defensiveness and jealousy (about turnout, flexibility, extensions and technique generally). Then they started realizing that, without the iron curtain, they were looking at their competition, and ballet in the West started a giant, progressive leap. But old habits die hard. I had a conversation on KZbin, just the other day, with a teacher who had posted a couple of approximately 8 to 12 year-old students demonstrating changement with absolutely no turnout (changement without turnout is actually an impossibility). Her response was that they were just children and they would ease into turnout over time, so they would not get injured. Unfortunately, the lack of turnout can be the cause of ballet injuries. Also if children, with pliable bodies are not taught turnout (albeit properly without injury) at a young age, their turnout pathways will never develop properly. If these students have good ballet bodies, the lack of turnout as they progress will (and should) spoil their chances. That is Yulia Stepanova I see in the front row of the first set of Vaganova Academy students (leotards and tights - no skirts). She is now a principal at the Bolshoi Ballet. How many of those who clicked the "dislike" button wish that they, their students or children had received the same impeccable training and discipline to have been able to make it to principal of any company.

The dislikes come from most likely English speaking westerners who always love to stress that subjecting achild to pressure or criticism or strict standards is damaging to a child and is harmful and won't get better results. In this video they see their idea or "free childhood learning" broken down and smashed to pieces, as, for example, a Royal Ballet School pupil comparing to those girls will look quite bad.

Some people put dislikes everywhere, they don't care what this video about kittens or ballet is about. They don't do this because they don't like the video, but simply out of spite.

These are amongst my favourite ballet videos - I always watch Vaganova videos before ballet class, your students are so inspiring, the strength necessary to maintain that beautiful slow flow of movement is extraordinary and energising. Спасибо 🙏

One thing the Royal does right is the a la seconde. They keep the hip level, take the side leg a little foreward, it drops into a "slot" and the overall distortion is less.
