Let's be realistic about the second amendment. The citizens should have whatever the people who are trying to take their freedoms away have. It's not about target shooting or hunting. It's about defending our liberties from anyone trying to take them. It's unpopular to talk about today, but that is the context in which it was written. They had literally just used guns to shoot the British and win their independence. They wrote it as a law to ensure that the people always maintained the ability to do it again if necessary.

If you disarm people, they can't fight back, and America wasn't the first they had done this to with their various colonizations. First rule of totalitarians, which is why almost all the West now have little to no gun rights, America is pretty much the last bastion, but even here many rights are already gone, directly contradicting the 2nd Amendment, i.e. NOT being able to keep and carry arms in various city's, buildings, etc. We are losing ALL of our Rights hard fought for in the West, both Western Enlightenment and the Constitution being trampled. @Lady Joker Care to take a guess? California communities! In Berkeley, San Mateo, and Pasadena, multi-unit housing must be smoke free. If you own a condo, duplex, or apartment within city limits, you can't smoke inside it or in the exterior yard. Burbank doesn't allow smoking in private exterior enclosures, either. You have an exterior balcony on your home? You can't smoke there! Santa Monica, Mill Valley, and Glendale have that same law. In many California cities, you can't smoke in a building - regardless of whether you own it or not - if you have a shared wall with another residential or commercial property. In San Rafeal, California, you can't smoke ANYWHERE in the city. You can't smoke in your own home or in your backyard. The city of Rocklin voted on outright banning smoking as well. Some communities in Colorado and Washington have similar stringent smoking policies. Funny, though...most of these regulations do not apply to marijuana usage, solely tobacco.

Same thing with a cigar lounge, the city came down on them and said they were only able to sell cigars but you couldn't smoke them inside. When i smoke a cigar outside a bar, i take the trouble to ask the people at the tables next to me if the smoke will bother them. If so, i'll move. Now they are telling us what medical procedure we must be forced to do and forcing us to give out our personal medical info. I have followed my doctors advice but I am outraged by this gvt assault. Which is what it is and it all began with cigarettes.

@Truth Hurtz You’re not wrong about the harmful aspects of those substances, but you’re wrong that virtually everything that could potentially pose a threat to you and others (more your peace of mind than anything else, frankly) needs to be “outright banned.” See my initial point? Too much Vitamin C can kill you. LoL. Look back at every generation of the part hundred years. For comparison, look at society in 1920. Then 1970. Then now. Look at the general public and ever-changing societal norms and what’s now deemed politically “correct”, and look at the caliber of men (and women). Get it now? I rest my case. Toughen up. And not just you. Me, him, her and everyone else. This is getting ridiculous. We as a modern society are a shell of what we once were. Generally speaking, we’re a disgrace to our forefathers, and to humankind for that matter. We’re are indeed the peeons resting on the shoulders of giants. A little cut here and scrape there……..and minuscule traces of carbon monoxide in your general vicinity ain’t gonna kill you. But constantly being paranoid and anxious about stuff that wasn’t a threat to even begin with can actually have harmful affects for you. How’s that for science? And see, I just did the same exact thing I’m criticizing you for. That’s not an accident. We’re purposefully being conditioned to be wussies. And not for our *benefit* either.
@mvies772 жыл бұрын
@Truth Hurtz You missed the whole point of my comment. Allowing the gvt to dictate what is right or wrong and to actually prevent you from acting on it is outrageous and an opening to anything they feel is so-called harmful being banned. The gvt has no place in our personal lives except protection from foreign powers invading our country. Any laws protecting citizens should come under the Constitution and Bill of Rights. Everything that is a matter of personal choice should be left alone. Simply make any perceived detrimental info available to the public and they can decide. Just as it always was prior to the 1960's when all of the social programs began to physically dictate their opinions into our lives. You really show your lack of awareness with, only marijuana should be allowed You cannot see how dangerous being satisfied as long as your particular pet is left alone, but if I do not have a particular horse in the race, it does not concern me, attitude. It will eventually come back to bite you in the end. There is so much which cannot be discussed here. It all basically comes down to real freedom which we are allowing the gvt to tear away every day. You have no idea how precious a gift you are allowing to just be regulated away.

I smoked for 15 years. I waited tables only in the smoking section because the people were more laid-back and tipped better. I smoked with all my friends and later on my clients. Thing is in those days it was thought smoking might kill you. These days everyone knows it probably will. As an ex-smoker, even after 20 years if I start breathing in even a few breaths of second hand, all the cravings from a device designed to keep you addicted come right back. The "woke" thing gets on my nerves plenty, but the smoking thing isnt about taking freedom away. Smoking in the same vicinity to other people takes THEIR freedom away to not breathe a poison they dont want in their lungs. I can't make you do anything other than call you an asshole. Dont inflict your death habit on others. Adam Corolla, dont be an asshole. Ill defend your right to smoke where others dont breathe it sure. Kill just yourself all you want. I have a whiskey every night but I dont pour some into peoples mouths everytime they walk into a gas station.

I think his point was to use it as more an example of others telling you what to do. Than saying smoke whever you like. I think most of us are glad there's no more smoking indoors or a non smoking section. Please just take it outside or the patio, I don't care how far from the door you are. If you're in a bar then absolutely you can smoke. But I don't want to be smelling that while I'm trying to enjoy my meal at olive garden. I hadn't been around smokers in awhile. I smoked for a very Short time, like 1 pack every 2 weeks and usually only with a drink. Recently I was walking through a warehouse where I could smell some employees has smoked inside. God did it smell awful, and made me feel like something was wrong with my breathing.

You can or could have gone to a restaurant that did not allow smoking. I hate smoke myself and that's where I would have gone had we not lost that liberty.

I grew up around smokers. My mom grandmom and sister all smoked in the house, windows up in the winter. I hated it then and I hate it now that I know that's what was probably causing my earaches and sinus problems. Everyone I knew as a kid who smoked looked like a burnt out loser so now I associate cigarette smokers to depressed burnt out losers. I don't care who smokes I just think it's trashy

Wtf is he talking about? It’s definitely the smoke in this scenario. No one wants to be forced to inhale that toxic crap. Anything but cigs, nothing compares. I had a neighbor in my condo complex 3 units down that smoked on his balcony everyday all day, why tf does my family have to suffer because of that fools disgusting habit? Smoking needs to go away completely. What a dumb comparison.

It's not the bill of needs, or bill of desires, or bill of privileges, or bill of because public servants have permission to live like an American. It's the bill of rights, rights that we r born with, rights many men and women sacrificed and gave their life for, rights that our continued freedoms depend and hinge on, rights that liberty loving Americans will never forfeit.

Find a better topic to use if you're going after progressivism. Nobody who doesn't smoke wants to come home smelling like smoke from working or going to a local business.
@JEP-Tech2 жыл бұрын
My lung health is pretty important, so as a Libertarian my stance was just not to go to bars or restaurants that allowed smoking and didn't ride in cars with smokers or go to their homes. Never asked for government bans on smoking in private businesses and never supported the ones that are now in place. I didn't want seat belt or helmet laws either, even though I use both. Don't want bans on any drugs or alcohol, even though I don't use those. I don't mind vaping though and it seems pretty clear it's much better than smoking cigarettes. Telling people how to live their lives and using the force of government to enforce their views isn't just a woke thing. Plenty of people who consider themselves conservative have been doing that for decades. Prohibition was a Progressive movement pushed for by mostly Protestant Christians and upper middle class women. Bans on marijuana and other drugs were pushed for by people on the right. Laws that try to protect people from their own bad decisions are always unjust and create unintended consequences. If you really want to help people the last thing you should do is use the threat of violence and intimidation of the government.
@Eye_of_a_Texan2 жыл бұрын
I am mostly with you, but the government could be a force for good. Instead of forcing all cars to have seat belts and air bags, just make sure that they are an available option and require adverts about how they save lives. That'd be just fine with me.
@JEP-Tech2 жыл бұрын
@@Eye_of_a_Texan I disagree. That could just be done by private agencies. Don't see why our taxes are needed to raise awareness about safety or force suppliers to provide safe products when there are always people who demand safe options and people are willing to supply them, so long as there is free trade. ABS saves lives and virtually all cars have it now, but it was not required by law when it first came about and the government does not advertise it as being good. There are also unintented consequences with the government advertising what is safe too. For decades the FDA has been telling people that a high fat diet is bad, but a high grain diet is good. Which is not true and has led to people eating an abundance of grains and avoiding good fats only to have numerous health issues related to nutrient deficiencies and obesity. Our understanding of things is constantly changing, but the government is very slow to adapt to new information and for every good idea one person might want the government to support, there are others who will be opposed to it and will push for some bad idea. Moreover, when the government gives guidelines on what people should do it is often influenced by the highest bidding lobbiests and very rarely gives the correct information. Governments no matter how democratic or just, are always a monopoly of force and any role given to them should be treated with an abundance of caution. I think there needs to be a strong separation between state and commerce, just as there is a strong separation between church and state.

@@JEP-Tech you know how many vehicles offered seat belts in the back seat before the govt? None. I would want one. Too bad.
@JEP-Tech2 жыл бұрын
@@Eye_of_a_Texan Yeah I am also sorry that you don't know history. Seat belts in automobiles predate the mandates. Most cars didn't have them because people didn't want them. There is nothing that prevents you from installing one your self. Don't need to call on daddy government to force people to provide you stuff you like.
@Eye_of_a_Texan2 жыл бұрын

The truth is that when the country was founded, the people far outnumbered the government and the government knew that. The government still said the people have to right to own the exact same weapons the government owned. This is back when the government and the people of this country were the same people. No, I don't think people should be allowed to own nuclear weapons, but firearms? Absolutely we should be allowed to have firearms.
