My family and I just finished a study of the book of Jonah with an expositional commentary by Ferguson, “Man Overboard”. It is very good. He makes a very good point in it that I’d never considered: What is the first thing nearly everyone thinks of when you hear “the Book of Jonah”? His point being that when we focus on the giant fish, we lose sight of the main message. The main message wasn’t Jonah being swallowed by a giant fish. It was God showing mercy and sovereign grace to the lost people of Nineveh. The fish was just a miraculous way of Jonah’s transportation to arrive there.
