Star crossed. He moved out at end of season three. She was hurt and decided to pursue grad school. You can see how devastated he was after his first show when he says you're leaving me? I always thought he loved her more and never got over her. Even at the end of the show.I think the acting between them is brilliant. They have good chemistry.

Seeing Hannah crumble like that is just gut wrenching. When she got up from the table, like that she was dying inside. Adam meant everything to her now she can see their relationship slipping through her fingers like grains of sand. It's the worst feeling in the world when the other person just doesn't want you anymore, and no amount of pleading will change their mind.

Well, the thing is that they DIDN'T really break up - it feels jarring because it was for Hannah. She thought they left on good terms and expected them to still be together when she got back. Then she found out that Adam had moved on. But they weren't really happy when she left. Remember how season 3 progressed and eventually ended. Sure, everything seemed alright again at the start of the first episode of season 4. But then you had Adam faking being asleep just so he didn't have to see Hannah off and stuff. He was still hurting. Him moving on was as a rebound - he basically says as much at the end of season 4. And then, come season 5... I'd argue that he's still hurting, over what happened in season 3 AND at the end of season 4, and that's why he seems so angry at Hannah and turns back into a jerk. Not that anyone was really wrong with what they did. Hannah had the right to try to move ahead with her career like he was. She should have told him, but he was not at all supportive like he wanted her to be of him. At the same time, him being hurt is justified. This was a HUGE thing for their relationship and she made the choice all on her own. Then, he was totally right to move on with his life while she was gone. At the same time, he never said anything and therefore she was justified in thinking they'd still be together when she got back. It's a whole big thing where everyone's in the wrong and, at the same time, no one is.

It's also very sad when he comes back at the end of the season but she says she can't take him back. Damn :( I can't help but still root for these two...I hope they get back together in S6.

At the end Hannah ended up all alone as a single working mom. Adam went on and went back to her best friend/ no longer friends. Classic.. I experienced that. Alone for six years, while my ex husband went straight into 10 lovers in a year, to a wife 4 years later. He only divorced me three weeks before he married her. Damn jerk slept with me a month after his wedding and five weeks after our divorce. So it was his his one month anniversary with his second wife he cheated with me, his first wife. I didn’t know he remarried. People move on and don’t tell someone. She never he saw me. Some people want to make sure they have one in case the other leaves. The one who is faithful is the one that is single, while two other one moves on. Adam deserve me the second lady to use and lose him. She was prettier - but a brat.

I would say it's part of the symbolism and meaning here. I mean Girls has sort of always been about portraying things as more realistic so they often don't have 'perfect' lighting, but especially in this scene, where we have, previously, the literal ripping off of a bandage. Everything is raw and real in this scene. There's no glamor. Lighting like this feels fitting, you know?
