The second smaller snare is the only thing that makes me think Nu Metal. Reminds me of Deftones right away, but the rest of the kit doesn't really hit any nostalgia for me.

Agreed, these over compressed "fat" snares that everyone uses today are not nu metal at all, I am so tired of hearing snares the sound like a snare and a tom was played together. The snares on Korn albums or Limp Bizkit were always tight and snappy

Nolly said it's a kit inspired by the *resurgence* of Nu-Metal and listed bands like Spiritbox, The Plot In You, recent Architects and Parkway Drive... So not really Korn, Disturbed, or Linkin Park which everyone was expecting (don't get me wrong I was expecting that too).

Maybe I'm just misinformed, but this doesn't sound like nu metal at all to me? The drums sound very modern and over-produced (not in a bad way, just describing the sound). I though nu metal was like late 90's/early 2000's.
