My step father is from Florida, and he loves British food because he lives in the UK and has actually tasted it. Unlike Britney and Falicia on TikTok that have no idea what they are talking about. "How come yaw dont season yaw food?!" We do. But we also use actual vegtables instead of powdered onion and salt, powdered chili and salt, powdered bacon and salt, powdered salt with salt ect...✌❤

In Northern Ireland, it's called Lurgan Champagne. Been as popular here for as long as it has in Scotland. There is a version in the Rep. of Ireland that is thicker and more medicinal tasting. Comes in a different bottle with an extra label on the neck. It is absolutely bogging.

A proper trifle or tipsy cake does not contain jelly. This is a relatively modern addition. It should have a base of fatless sponge cake - trifle sponges can be bought in the UK and keep for ages - and (optional) macaroons, intermingled with fruit, such as raspberries, cooked pears, peaches or apricots, moistened with a sweet sherry or port, it should be damp rather than soggy. Next comes a layer of custard preferably made from scratch with eggs sugar and whole milk or alternatively made with custard powder with the addition of an egg yolk to give the right slightly wobbly consistency. The whipped cream flavoured with a few drops of vanilla extract, is either piped into whorls cupcake fashion or simply formed Into heaps with a couple of teaspoons and arranged around the top of the custard. These little heaps are then decorated with sliced almonds, pieces of glace cherry and very small strips of angelica. Between the heaps tiny ratafia biscuits, also slightly moistened with alcohol are added. These days, ratafia biscuits are not easily found so mini amaretti biscuits will do and can also replace the macaroons in the trifle base. Finally, silver balls are scattered over NEVER hundreds and thousands which are an abomination! Trifle looks best in a glass bowl. In my family this was always available if there was a big Christmas lunch, in case any diners did not like Christmas pudding. This tipsy cake is somewhat labour intensive but it's appearance is very festive and when I was a young, regular party goer, it was very often requested as my contribution to the food. It was usually brought to the event in a very large inherited cutglass bowl which came to be referred to as "the heirloom". l
