Guys, Adam isn't saying you wouldn't have liked bacon without the advertisements, just that it wouldn't have been as worshiped as it was now. Also, he's not saying that people didn't know how it was unhealthy, the issue is HOW unhealthy...

Right but if you think about it, that's not THAT much. One could eat a hotdog one day, pepperoni pizza the next, then absentmindedly have some bacon with breakfast the next day or a bacon cheeseburger. Now that I'm looking through my own diet, I'm realizing that I'm eating this processed meat, way more often than I thought.

But that's just me. For others, yeah, go for it. That sounds great. My point was only that it can be easier than one might think to eat this stuff more often than you might think. Because that was my first thought too. "More than once a day? Who eats THAT much processed meat." Well as it turns out, I do. Lol.

People don't realize that the Vegan lifestyle is a developed world lifestyle Where in the United States do bananas grow???? pineapples??? coffee???? quinoa??? coconuts??? and many many other Vegan staples, that means they have to be transported here somehow most likely with fossil fuels and even plants that do grow here if the majority of people were vegan you realize how much demand for such products would skyrocket increasing it's price and reducing availability I'm not even sure if they know how much you have eat on a vegan diet most plants are naturally low in calories They talk about how much water and other resources livestock uses, yeah they use a lot but when you find a plant that has as many calories as meat does per pound you let me know

I like how we blame a fast food chain called Hardee's but the reality of it is is the pork industry had started this blitz about bacon back in the 1950s through your grocery store and how they did that was they marketed bacon as part of breakfast but not just any breakfast it was marketed as the breakfast of farmers when in fact most Farmers really didn't eat bacon and eggs for breakfast!!

“Even if you eat just 50 grams of processed meat per day, some estimates show your risk of colorectal cancer increases by nearly 20%!” Really, Adam? I normally like your show, but don't you think this is kind of disingenuous, ESPECIALLY after you did that segment on how being 40 or above may double the chance of birth defects, but only from 0.5% to 1%? In the _very article you cite_ (www.theguardian.com/news/2018/mar/01/bacon-cancer-processed-meats-nitrates-nitrites-sausages), it says that eating processed meat every day can increase your chances of getting bowel cancer by 20%… but you already only had an average chance of about 5%. Meaning you'd have to eat processed meat *every day* for *decades* just to up it to a whopping 6%. And yeah, that's a big change in the aggregate, but it's still _really_ small on a personal basis, barely worth mentioning. Bacon is bad for you, sure. But let's not exaggerate and scare-monger like you so often accuse _everyone else_ of doing.

😂🤣😅🤣😂🤣😅🤣😂 No Adam. I eat bacon because I love the taste of it. Just as my grandparents before me did. You know...well before the big bacon marketing push in the early 1990's. Most everyone I knew loved bacon well before the marketing strategy of the 90's mentioned in this video. Oh, and stop pushing responsibilities of individuals that choose their lives a certain way on others. People have choices. They don't have to engage in bad practices/behavior if they don't want to or just because someone tells them to. I certainly don't. I eat bacon because it's delicious. Not because someone tells me to. And yes, I know it's not healthy. With that said. Most studies that link any activity to any health issues typically don't take into account the habits and environmental conditions in which the vast majority of those used in the study have. So there's rate a study that can truthfully say that any one activity causes any symptoms 100%. In fact, rarely can they actually truthfully say it's a fact 50%. That's why recommended eating habits are constantly changing. Think we've all heard the saying, "everything causes cancer". The fact of the matter is that we're all different. How our bodies process what put into them is all different to some extent. Yes, there are basic guidelines that we should follow. However, my grandmother lived to 93 years old eating & doing most things that today we are told not to. Including she ate lots of bacon. Of course there are reasons why she, and many others, could do that. Just as I know many people that have "eaten healthy" all their lives who died early due to health problems. So studies & statistics have to be "taken with a grain of salt". They're never as simple as the outcomes projected by their creators in most cases. It always amazes me how many people preach that things aren't so black & white yet take these studies so literally. Let's not forget that in most cases the facilitators of these studies/statistics have agendas too. Many wouldn't get a paycheck if they didn't skew studies a certain way. You think that only "big bacon & meat" lobby and heavily contribute to political campaigns. That's outside the agendas that the politicians themselves have themselves. They have strong beliefs/opinions just as much as everyone else does. Just as do the creators & host of this program do. Don't just believe something to be true because it fits how you feel. You could be wrong, and you could be harming society far more with actions as a result of your opinions. Remember...the truth usually is in the middle grey areas.

Even as a meat-eater, I found the whole bacon craze to be out of control. Yeah, bacon is good as a topper. But, do you really need to eat it with ice cream and cupcakes? In my opinion, bacon is one of the unhealthy foods that are actually healthy since it gives you protein. That's why I eat meat, so I can get my protein.

The Raddest Scorpion Oh, trust me, I do. And I want to point out that you fail to realize that veganism can’t support a population of our size, and I’m talking world population, not the US. Without processed foods, there wouldn’t be enough food to support our current population and embracing any such ideal as pure vegetable diets will lead to eventual starvation, suffering, and likely violence for many across the globe. You can claim moral high ground, but that’s only because you care only for yourself and to hell with anyone else who thinks differently, right?

The Raddest Scorpion Meat is not the cause of cancer, it is a form of preservative found in meat that gives cancer. Preservative is Sodium nitrite is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula NaNO2. It is a white to slightly yellowish crystalline powder that is very soluble in water and is hygroscopic. It is a useful precursor to a variety of organic compounds, such as pharmaceuticals, dyes, and pesticides, but it is probably best known as a food additive to prevent botulism. In the early 1900s, irregular curing was commonplace. This led to further research surrounding the use of sodium nitrite as an additive in food, standardizing the amount present in foods to minimize the amount needed while maximizing its food additive role.[9] Through this research, sodium nitrite has been found to inhibit growth of disease-causing microorganisms; give taste and color to the meat; and inhibit lipid oxidation that leads to rancidity.[9] The ability of sodium nitrite to address the above-mentioned issues has led to production of meat with improved food safety, extended storage life and improving desirable color/taste.[9] It has the E number E250. Potassium nitrite (E249) is used in the same way. It is approved for usage in the EU,[10][11] USA[12] and Australia and New Zealand. Nitrate or nitrite (ingested) under conditions that result in endogenous nitrosation has been classified as "probably carcinogenic to humans" by International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC).

Group 1 known carcinogen refers to the quality of evidence that demonstrates something to be carcinogenic. Group 1 means the evidence is really good. It doesn't mean that it's a really strong carcinogen, you have to use other classifications for that. Like, I'm pretty sure polonium is also group 1, but that has a slightly different level of carcinogenicity. Anyway, you don't need carcinogenicity to not eat pigs. Pigs may be even smarter than dogs, which for me at least is too smart to eat. I would not eat a dog, so nor do I eat pigs anymore.

Although these risks are small, they could be important for public health because many people worldwide eat meat and meat consumption is increasing in low- and middle-income countries. Although some health agencies already recommend limiting intake of meat, these recommendations are aimed mostly at reducing the risk of other diseases. With this in mind, it was important for IARC to provide authoritative scientific evidence on the cancer risks associated with eating red meat and processed meat."
