Great video. I like that you did normal car washes to test the product rather than spraying it with iron remover/wheel cleaner like other channels do. Much more useful

Now this is how you do a durability test! Abrasion through hand washing repeated will be a much more accurate form of testing than spraying APC on a panel. Great content, we'd love to work with you in the future.

Thanks for the kind comment! I do agree that the wash method is more realistic than a chemical attack. Still not perfect as it doesn’t account for other factors like heat and UV, but Im working up added testing. I was at Adams the other day, I saw the slick and slide and took a pass. I just bought a gallon of Adams spray wax. It’s a super easy use drying aid. Good longevity, and looks great too. Also I can use it very liberally without streaking. I don’t see myself buying either of these products but after your testing I’d say the turtle wax is a winner. I grew up using turtle wax products. The turtle wax zip wash and wax is a winner too !

I don't doubt your method but I think this will end up as an unpopular finding lol. I really don't know how it will go tho but I know it's kinda contradictive to others finding. Worth mentioning they also have a new "improved" version of Seal 'N Shine. Enjoyed the video thank you :)

Thanks for watching! If you're talking about the durability finding, I think it's pretty incredible that Turtle Wax hit 21 washes. Both products really amazed me. It's definitely a lot more than most waxes ever do, especially for a spray wax. Very impressive! I'll definitely be testing the SiO2 version as well in the future. Hopefully it's even better, because my overall take was that it's a great product, just not the best for a project car or show car, which the top paste/liquid waxes always win with their thick layered depth. So not sure why this would be controversial, but I know detailing products are religion to some people :).

It's funny, I have bottles of Wolfgang Deep Gloss laying around, I know you're also a big fan but I find myself going back to the Turtle Wax stuff over and over again lol, they are just so cheap and easy. @@jimmyqballs Sounds like another one we got to test :). Yea I love the Wolfgang, but again not what I use on my daily driver, same as you. I am fortunate enough to live close enough to Adam's brick and mortar store that I just swing over when I buy products. I asked the guys working at Adam's about slick and slide, they didnt have specific information on durability as it was just released. However, they did say that slick and slide is not meant to be very durable, but is best as a final topper over your sealant or wax to add gloss and increase hydrophobic properties. I think a better comparison for Adam's slick and slide would be P&S beadmaker. However, this is the first video I have seen featuring a test of slick and slide and I I appreciate your tests. Not sure the comparison to TW seal n shine is apples to apples.
@DmitrysGarage
@DmitrysGarage 4 жыл бұрын
Scott, that's interesting, because I found the product to be super durable. I realize it's meant to be a topper, but just like Sonax Brilliant Detailer it's kind of a polymer sealant too. It basically acts the same as any spray sealant when you use it. I'm surprised those guys aren't testing durability internally, because its really amazingly durable, as is Sonax, but this is even more durable. This is so far the most durable Adam's product I've tested, even more passes than their spray coatings.
@scottmattern482
@scottmattern482 4 жыл бұрын
@@DmitrysGarage your results were very interesting indeed. On it's own, it looked to be more durable than seal n shine and a loss in gloss. I wonder if the half life of the chemicals are short or if its prone to evaporation over a few days - some variable that you couldn't account for in the time frame of a KZbin video. Dude at Adam's was saying to use it like a preshow topper for a temporary boost in depth and gloss, but he didn't care to discuss longterm durability just to expect a couple weeks. I have only used it once on my dad's truck when he visited over the 4th after I polished, sealed, paste waxed, and then slick and slided it. I will be sure to try it out on my vehicles soon and get a better grasp of it's real world durability.
@DmitrysGarage
@DmitrysGarage 4 жыл бұрын
It's possible, but it was amazing that it stood up to isopropyl alcohol so well too! I plan to build a few new test rigs that will help simulate other factors (UV, heat, etc...) I'm skeptical of the due who was saying it's a pre-show topper. Mainly because spray waxes are never thick enough to build depth. Gloss sure, but depth IMO requires actual depth. That's why natural carnauba can be so pretty looking, even if it lasts a car was and a half :). Typically pre-show I'd suggest a liquid glaze or a natural carnauba paste. Not durable, but pretty and helps hide some of the defects by filling in. Sprays are just so thin, they mostly seem to affect luster/gloss.

Everyone's tests are a little different. I do strictly what the instructions say. If they say 2 coats, I will do 2 coats, if it says 3 I'll do 3, etc... That's a strong claim. I heard the new formula smells better, has uv blockers added and added carnauba wax. All of which probably help your claim that the new formula is indeed improved, but "exponentially better on all levels" is hyperbolic at best and perhaps overstating/misleading the improvements. Having said that, I cant wait to try the new formula, people are raving about it.

Using Adams shampoo doesn't make justice to turtle wax...Using a third brand would have made sense as companies make sure using their one product on another enhances it's performance and not degrade...using Adams shampoo on the Adams detailer helped it retain its properties but it was not same with turtle wax...please do so in the next videos
@DmitrysGarage
@DmitrysGarage 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and commenting. Unfortunately that would ruin the testing as the shampoo would have to keep changing. For example say I used a Meguiars shampoo for this test and wanted to test a Meguiars product for the next test? It would be pointless to compare the tests since different shampoos were used. I always use the same shampoo for every test. The Adams blue original shampoo is one of the most basic mild shampoos. The active ingredients are really basic if you look at the SDS sheet. Its the same stuff you’d find in a variety of products like shampoos, soaps, body washes, cosmetics, etc... so it is a good candidate for testing because its mild compared to many other shampoos. Also Adams has been making this shampoo for many years while these are new products we’re testing. Furthermore it doesn’t have any wax or gloss enhancers so its not enhancing any products, adams or otherwise.

@@abhayprabhu4256 The other videos you see primarily test durability via chemical resistance, i.e. pouring some all purpose cleaner or some other chemical on it. Turtle wax has really good chemical resistance which is why it wins those tests easily. I test for abrasion resistance from repeated washes, which is more real world because who puts random chemicals on their paint? This shampoo is very mild, I actually wouldn't recommend it for heavily soiled cars. I have reviewed the new formula as well, there's a video up. It had about the same durability as the old formula under abrasion testing.

Hi Dmitry, thank you for this video! I'm going to purchase Turtle Was Ice Spray wax to protect few aftermarket carbon fiber exterior parts (like front under-bumper skirt, rear diffuser, trunk spoiler etc) from UV. I had an issue on another car before where the clear coat on my CF trunk spoiler simply cracked in multiple areas and now my CF spoiler looks like garbage. Please tell if you know any better UV protector? I see many products and I think there is no magic here, so I guess some product prices are inflated as hell. I really don't want to pay a fortune for a UV protector spray, so something between $10-$15 would be nice. Thank you!
@DmitrysGarage
@DmitrysGarage 4 жыл бұрын
Glad you found the video helpful, thanks for watching! Are you sure the CF you had was not just epoxy coated, but actually had a clear coat painted on top of the epoxy? Was it factory or aftermarket? A lot of aftermarket CF body parts come with just the epoxy and must be clear coated or they fade VERY quickly if the vehicle lives outdoors. Products can help protect from UV, but they're a secondary protection, you really have to have that clear coat.
@NoWheelDrive
@NoWheelDrive 4 жыл бұрын
@@DmitrysGarage It's a great question regarding what is installed on m car. The car was used when I purchased it. It was already equipped with all that aftermarket CF parts which are shiny and I suppose they have a clear coat on top of each part but I'm not 100% sure.
@DmitrysGarage
@DmitrysGarage 4 жыл бұрын
@@NoWheelDrive Yea it's hard to tell if you didn't buy the parts. Epoxy will look like clear coat and is shiny too, but it's not as UV resistant as clear coat. Clear coat even without a sealant on it can last outside for years without any noticeable fading, but sealants with UV protection will of course help extend that life. I would guess it probably just had epoxy on it, it's very common to ship CF that way since it allows you to paint it right away without much prep work. Some people want CF for the light weight and may paint it (thin coat can still show a weave) to look like factory paint or they may just clear it. Lots of people don't bother and it winds up fading fast.
@NoWheelDrive
