Robin, agree, but this dream job comes at a toll. All the things he sees means he'll need a bigger personal cave for more stuff! Adam should just make the commitment to open up his own museum to the public to share his collection and make some extra money for doing so. So what would it take, 50,000 square feet? ;*)

Prometheus was pretty much a verbatim rip off of O'Bannon and Schussett's original, unmodified story for 'alien'.. except for the addition of the 'company' and an android to do the company's whims without humanity.. wait.. isnt that their contribution to the original, too? Lol!
@jimfox6943
@jimfox6943 7 жыл бұрын
CaptainMcSmoky it's funny when I saw the promotional stuff for Prometheus I never realised it was connected to alien I just didn't pay attention to it because I didn't know it was connected. I can remember watching it for the first time with my father and I saw the ship and I just said "that's the fucking ship from alien" and dad was like what no it can't be, then I continued to watch it and started to make connections. As a fan of the alien movies (not 3 or 4) I was disappointed that I could not know that this film was based in the same universe and it gutted me that a person can almost watch the entire film and not make the connection.

It's great that practical sets are coming back. The all-greenscreen sets where horrible and had a negativ effect on the actors performance. CG is great if used as a tool to enhance practical effects and bad if everything is replaced by it.
@boggisthecat
@boggisthecat 7 жыл бұрын
Billy Causey You probably aren't even aware of how much CG is in films (and TV) now. It is poorly done CG that is a problem. Of course there is a big impact on actors. The Star Wars prequels were very flat because the actors had nothing to act within, and in some cases weren't even able to perform together when they ended up pasted into the same scene. (Lucas dropped the ball on a lot of other things, too -- but he should have known better about the all green screen approach.)
@skyworm8006
@skyworm8006 7 жыл бұрын
Are you sure about that? "CGI" is used in almost every scene in every movie with a decent amount of money behind it, people just don't notice and harp on about it being shit when it's used poorly. Without noticing it being used well (which is 99% of the time).

The problems are achieving believable movements of all the elements, and seamless lighting and blending (the problem isn't detail, it's sharpness and/or poor antialiasing algorithms) with the whole environment... No matter how advanced or powerful the computers get. Realism is something that you can't get out of nowhere if there's no real, direct reference to begin with...
@herrakaarme
@herrakaarme 4 жыл бұрын
@@boggisthecat I recall Ian McKellen saying he wanted to walk out of the Hobbit production because, compared to the LOTR, so many of the sets were nothing but green sceens and there often weren't even other actors presents. In this sense I think the virtual set technique used recently in the Mandalorian tv series recording is quite nice for the actors. Lets hope it will develop to be good enough for films, not just tv series, so that actors will get into the roles better and enjoy the filming process more, to make the movies all the better and inspired.

Looking at the set it seems to be drifting further and further from Giger's Biomechanic concepts becoming less fluid and organic and more hard edged, it was part of the beauty, horror and mystery of the original Alien derelict was that it was like a carcass of some ancient creature in its own right, it was that contrast between the Nosromo and the alien derelict that was a visual collision between two very different worlds that made me love Alien. I can remember watching Prometheus and feeling genuine anger that the Space Jockey was a big white bald dude in a suit, it was such an utter failure of imagination and such a wasted opportunity to build on a truly unique concept that I felt depressed walking out.

Agreed. Prometheus was just terrible, but the space jockeys being big white CG dudes wearing Gyger suits was a huge cop-out. And teasing the Space Jockey seat and crashed ship, then making it a different ship, was a huge cop-out. Also the incredibly stupid choices made by each and every member of the crew. Also Guy Pearce in old man makeup for no reason. I could go on.

Wow Adam! This is awesome! You are the PERFECT person to run a behind the scenes to large production movies! You understand how it is all done and have the ability to get in these places where we never could. Would LOVE to see a longer more detailed behind the scenes then small clips...maybe? :)
