Adam Savage suits up in his Iron Man Mark 1 armor for his first incognito costume walkaround in almost two years! At this past weekend's SiliCon event, Adam joins the ranks of amazing cosplayers who walked the convention floor to take photos with attendees, swap costume build notes, and celebrate their fandoms. It feels so good to be surrounded by cosplay again!

I created an account to follow the people and content creators I like, but I felt unwelcome there. I didn't care about earning likes or followers, I'm not so shallow to get salty for not drawing attention (the account was created just to follow others after all). That should be a good reminder to include cooling into the outfits you want to use in warmer months. A ducted fan to blow air into the jacket or a tube cooled shirt to an ice pack as you want something you can safely use for longer then 20-30 minutes in a row. It could also be worth it to look into building a low profile powered skate setup to fit into the feet of the builky outfits so you can cheat and roll around in spots with concrete/tile floors then lock them down when you need to walk

I wonder if the following could be of use in cosplay etc: I have a set of 'strap-on'-stilts with 3 wheels each (650mm to the foot-plate, 100mm dia wheels, axles on an arc with origin at/above my knee, middle wheel just back from instep), surprisingly easy to use. They can get to be a hell of a leg workout though, but less than you'd expect: you 'could' do a half-marathon on them without too much trouble (assuming you could do same on foot). They freak people out, especially when you pick up some speed. Fitted heel and toe 'rakes' can make them much more user-friendly and safe for learning and slow maneuvering, and sometimes for quick/safe stopping, but it depends on the flatness and type of terrain (raised edges of paving can cause unexpected stubbing and carpet is a bitch). At the mo I'm using bowden-cable operated 'drop-stubs' for transition to walking (going into stores while 'walking' on them draws stares but usually no problem, but 'skating' often gets me told off and/or ejected; the operating grip/latch for these 'stubs' are about waist height, often in the pockets). If you make any 'States', as I call them, I don't recommend the floor contact-length being any longer than projecting lines from the 'center of your knee to toe' and 'knee to heel' (unless you are going for the 'marathon' type, in which case think 2-wheeled ice 'speed-skates'). And definitely wear gloves/helmet/elbow/knee-pads, even if you do know how to fall properly. Single extra-length 'drop-studs' (40-60mm), so you have a single-point contact with each leg, also make the transition to walking-mode so much easier, they can double as temporary parking-brakes when walking flat-footed in crowds and you can't otherwise step-balance (I don't know if there is an 'industry' word for that technique), or lock one down and 'scoot' on the other. Wheel brakes could also do for 'crowd-walking' purposes. If you make and/or use any such devices I take no responsibility for any harm/damage or injury if you do or if you follow any of the ideas/recommendations. Be safe, be vigilant, behave. Peace.

That's a thing I love about some cosplayers, I've dressed up and feels that my cosplay isn't overly great, and then someone who's put a shit ton of time into creating something like this would then say to me, "I love your costume it's so cool", to which I'm usually shocked by, I know it's not a competition, unless there's a competition being held, but having the mindset of you can still have an amazing cosplay even if it didn't require of lot of skill to make, is a better way to go about it. Plus it's always wholesome seeing such an amazing cosplayer complimenting others

Glad you finally got to take it out for a spin around the floor. Would love to see what you do to it after a con (cleaning, repair, tweaking, etc.). Cleaning a costume I've sweated in heavily at a convention is always something I dread, so a lot of mine tend to be either glorified shells over street clothes, or...complete disasters after they come out of the washing machine the first time. I've spent a lot of time tediously removing little gold fibers of what had once been carefully sewn on gold trim, then sewing back new on my last costume in 2016. It's still waiting to be washed after its second convention...

Was there. Saw Adam at the end of his walk. Sad to see that big expanse of empty hall that was full for the last Silicon Valley Comic Con.

Yet another reason why I want to get into full body cosplay. You can just bring so much joy to people's day yet also just be anyone under the mask.

I always love these videos. It's always such a fun display of how fun cosplay is and the community. It's really nice to see it especially since I don't quite feel comfortable enough to go back to Cons yet. I'm missing it but these videos are a nice substitute. Hopefully I'll see you at a midwest con in the future.

The really cool part was when he was walking to the hall the cumbersome nature of the costume made the ability to walk as difficult as when you see Tony Stark walking out of the cave. I can understand why he got them to cart him off the floor because I wouldn't want to have to walk all that way back to get out of the costume and I bet he needed some monkey powder after he was done. Anyone who's a hiker knows what I'm talking about there

The mask could totally be part of the costume. You wouldn't want to breathe in the smoke from the flame throwers, especially in the cave he's fighting in.

this just proofs how sound design and choreography matters more than having the actual suit
@DaveDexterMusic
@DaveDexterMusic 2 жыл бұрын
so if adam was just dressed normally but accompanied by sound design and walking like tony stark did, that would matter more than him making and wearing the actual suit?
@SDRIFTERAbdlmounaim
@SDRIFTERAbdlmounaim 2 жыл бұрын
@@DaveDexterMusic no my point is just that even with his near accurate suit it still doesn't have the same feel and intensity of the on-screen movie suit and overall act of it, hence the sound design and the other little missing details i mentioned.

Of all the Iron Man armor suits over the years in all the marvel movies, this is my favorite one. The cobbled together appearance and design gives it the appearance of a desperate last stand, but it makes you wonder what it could have become if Stark kept this original design. It might be flawed, but it was definitely unique among the armors. Still, having flamethrowers and rocket launchers was just enough to send a message. It was in a word: glorious.
