As Adam is using his lathe more these days, he's also upgrading it with new accessories like additional lathe collet chucks. And to store these massive steel parts, Adam makes a rolling rack stand that can hold all of his chucks for quick access and cleaning. It's Adam's first One Day Build using sheets of 1-inch plywood, and a construction that comes together with just tabs and slots!

Hi Adam, I really enjoy watching your videos and each new one is better than the last. I imagine you often receive suggestions for videos, I was wondering if you could make a video specifically on your ideation, drawing, and creative process that occurs before the build. We get to see your drawings before you make the build but it would be interesting to understand your thought process. Thanks, a long time fan, Ian

Calls it a one day build. Built one off camera over the weekend, decided to tweak the design a bunch, then gave us a build montage of v1.1. Not really a one day build. That said, amazing craftsmanship. He spent a ton of time showing us the bridgeport for doing the hole pattern and slots. Then he free handed the slots and tabs in all the other pieces with a fricken band saw and jig saw. Those were the hard ones and he nailed it.

My upcoming workshop is sooo much smaller... So I love the things you do to efficiently store stuff.... I myself am doing the same, just more extreme. And one of the things I found to do this is the usage of airline trolley's... You know, the trolley's they use to hand out drinks in air planes... Today I'll be posting a small video about them and I'll customize them in 5-6 weeks or so (I guess) once my workshop is up and running... Check it out! :)

The 90 degrees cuts above every resting position worry me. Not only are they the narrowest point, but the straight angle cut looks like it is really unkind in regards to the weighty forces exerting on the material over time. Since there was extra space to work with (due to the known dimensions of the tools resting there), you could have used the centimeter or two for a nicely rounded inside slope. This would add at least one more centimeter of supporting material on both supports to the weakest parts of the construction. Think bridges: they have arches to better distribute the forces in play. It is hard to guesstimate the real weights and the ability of the material to withstand those stresses over time (especially for plywood!), but if you can't resist the opportunity to go for a third version, now you've got an excuse! xD

Not that Adam cuts corners on builds or does sloppy work by any means. But he definitely has a level of tolerance that has more slack in it when he's building typical projects around the shop that are designed to just "hold something." You can really tell when he puts the time in to a quality build such as this. Probably due to the weight of the chucks requiring more strict building parameters. But it's still really cool him busting out all the right equipment to make this special.

Great idea. How about a small groove on the wooden support, just past the diameter of the largest chuck, that would fit a clear plastic "cake" cover. No need to cut larger shelves. The groove doesn't need to go all around, as the seal doesn't need to be hermetic, the only issue is dust and swarf falling from above.

Thanks to @Jonathan Katz-Moses, I was able to spot Adams cutting mistakes before he made them. I tried screaming at the tv but Adam still didn’t hear me.

Always loved how he proudly shows his mistakes and then explains step by step how he made a mistake and how he SHOULD have prevented it teaching everyone else and himself a lesson. A pleasure watching this man work as always!

Milling machine ring light in a search engine turns up loads of them. Sometimes they're called sindle light or quill light too. But milling machine ring light seems to net all of them.

If you have a 3d printer, you can build your own version using "angel eye" led rings for cars (120mm diameter IIRC). Few bucks on eBay etc, and print a housing you like. There are a few designs on thingiverse, but I did my own to make sure it'd fit the led ring I used. 12v power from an old router wall wart. You could also ghetto rig the led ring on in any number of ways....
