Adam Savage's One Day Builds: Mini Apple Box!

Adam experiences cute overload when unboxing and checking out this miniature C-Stand from Matthews, and can't help but make a matching set of mini apple boxes to go along with it! It's a bit of scale-model woodworking that's made easy with the help of table saw and milling machine, but also a reminder to take the time with sanding your plywood to give even simple boxes a professional feel and finish.

That C stand would make an awesome desk lamp. The "C" in C Stand comes from Century, the original designer/manufacturer, Century Lighting, NYC. But over the many many years through a many many itterations, Matthews has become the defacto manufacturer.

I'm a drummer, and for the longest time I thought C-stand came from cymbal stand since they are very similar in form and function. I was wrong. Just a coincidence.

I think the best thing about adams work is he records, and moves the camera as he works, without cuts. Its subtle but it serves as a reminder this isn't a set up scene, this is real work someones really doing live before the camera

I loved this one!!! Those were absolutely the coolest things I have watched you make...and I have watched you make 100's of things! Thank you for this one and it really made me wish I still had some of my old doll house tools. When my daughter was little I used to make doll houses and furniture. This is such a fun little build (literally). I love that Adam still added the middle support to the apple boxes even though it is completely superfluous since these boxes don't need to be strong. When Adam was setting up his staple gun I was wondering if he would have trouble using it with such thin material but of course he decided glue was good enough.

Awesome. :) Now you just need some half apples, quarter apples and some pancakes. Oh, and don't forget to have a bunch of little sandbags to keep your c-stands from blowing away in the wind when you have your gels, lights, bounces or shades attached. My god, I miss gripping... One of the favorite shows I had the pleasure to work on was a low-budget Canadian series, similar to "Myth Busters". It was called "The Re-Inventors", with Matt Hunter and Jeremy MacPherson. What a fun time. I was there to help build a giant medieval battering ram, a windmill powered battle transport, and some giant war kites, that were 10' x 14', with rockets attached, (in the middle of a Saskatchewan winter, in -40 c. temperatures!), to name just a few. So many great memories just came flooding in watching you build these little miniatures! Thank you, Adam! Cheers, from Saskatchewan, Canada.

I understand the confusion, but actually the Apple™ apple boxes are marketed as iBox, and start at $499 (for the pancake size). They are seamless, milled aluminum with a matte finish and don't have handholds so the surface isn't spoiled, but you can bundle in a Belkin handhold accessory adapter dongle for $60...

Hi Adam! I took some advice from what I think was your previous video. I'm learning ArcGIS Pro in a class and I simply asked if she could repeat one of the steps and just let me watch her do it. Along with taking notes, I think I memorized it a lot better than before. Thanks for that advice!

What's really cool is the miniature C stand is completely usable for tabletop and so are the small apple-boxes. the boxes can lift up a 'thing' you are working on for spraying or getting at a more practical height off the bench, the c stand can hold a camera, light, reflector, drying fan, etc.

Adam I was at first confused at tha name Apple box’s my first introduction to these was by Barbara Feldon (Agent 99) from get smart. She was talking about Don Adams needing to stand on “Apple creates” because she was 5’9” and he so much shorter, she also said normally she worked bare foot or in flats not sure if she just call them Apple creates or and yes they are useful for many things. But I have became fond of milk creates, for storage, stepping platform, my mini milk creates is a ream of copy paper.
