Adam Savage's One Day Builds: Tintype Photo Clamp for Gary Oldman!

Adam helps out actor Gary Oldman with one of his hobbies in this week's build! Gary is an avid photographer, and practices the craft of wet plate photography. For that tintype process, he needed a way to mount his large glass photo plates to clean and prep. Adam builds and sends Gary a custom clamp for that purpose and we get to see the unboxing!

felt could have been used on the rabbit grooves to prevent the glass from slipping in the wood. as well as you could have added 4 rubber or silicone or plastic legs to elevate it off the table, so the handle is rotatable in laying down position as he tried it. include a user manual! :D the directional instructions are funny, but come on...what about the safety instructions labels?!?! :D learn from "AVE" and make some of your own! good to see you used oak, i only hope you oiled it and not lacqkered

I'd like to suggest a handful of improvements for Version 2: 1. Rubber jaws for the clamps. These will prevent over-tightening and cracking the glass. Also, won't absorb chemicals over time and transfers them to the glass. 2 . Rubber contact in the middle for the same reason. 3. A handle to hold the clamp while cleaning, that's not the same as the tightening knob. 4. Self-lubricating bushing for the aluminium rods. Any oil based lubricant will wash off, or even transfer to hands, and then glass. 5. Easy disassembly for cleaning.

Ah! This was delightful. I enjoy both Gary and Adam from their other work but this was just great.

I'm honestly watching the end of this and squinting to tell if it's *really* Gary Oldman, or just Adam doing an amazing impression. The resemblance is crazy.

Gary Oldman is treasure. I'm fairly certain that one day we're all going to take off our makeup and discover that he's been portraying all of us all along.

I love the way Adam has spent his working life accrueing social capital with all the world's coolest people. It feels like some day he might just call it all in and declare himself king.
