The California Academy of Sciences, renowned for its vast biological collection, undertook a pioneering expedition to the Galapagos Islands in 1905. Despite the near-total loss caused by the 1906 San Francisco earthquake, curator Alice Eastwood's heroism preserved over 1,500 type specimens. Through subsequent efforts, the Academy emerged as a leading institution in scientific research, now housed in Golden Gate Park.*
Adam Savage, known for co-hosting "MythBusters," a TV show where he tested myths and urban legends, has made significant contributions to science and entertainment. He also runs the KZbin channel "[Adam Savage’s Tested,]( / @tested )" showcasing his craftsmanship and engaging with the maker community. Savage advocates for science education and critical thinking, emphasizing skepticism and hands-on learning.

What an amazing, hidden history of the California Academy of Sciences Museum! I didn't know that it started that early, or that pretty much everything but those rescued items had been destroyed in 1906. Little did they know their progressive thinking would bring them Alice Eastwood, who would risk her life in the fire to save those one of a kind items. Now, as a jeans person, now I'm rethinking the practicality of skirts! Great 5 minute knowledge slam, Adam! 💜✊

Ever the craftsman! That was as eloquently spoken and intriguingly informative as it was well sculpted from word marble. Nicely done, Adam!
