Remember, this is a Filmation show. They have a tendency of producing 13 episodes of certain shows then rerunning them into oblivion (oftentimes switching networks). The Superfriends had a three year gap between seasons 1 and 2. Batman: The Animated Series went into production in 1990 and debuted in 1992.

Bat Mite had a whole development arc, from PITA to capable hero. Also, Adam wasn't doughy. The stunt double was the chunky one. Pure grade A West.

This little guy is cute, but much as I tend to favor nostalgia, I like the take from Batman : The Brave and the Bold on Bat-Mite, making him a raging fanboy nerd focused on Batman. That version is fun too. I mean, they all are, but, BatB version is kind of a send up of/salute to the obsess...ahem, I mean dedicated fans.

If you think the cartoon rights over that are bad, Go-Bots is a bigger mess. Hasbro got certain elements of that franchise when they bought Tonka, but not really enough to make much use of. Hanna-Barbera(now WB) retained the cartoon 100%. Bandai Japan however owns all the original toy molds & character designs. So the most of a revival that got was the new Machine Robo line in Japan, which Hasbro has just enough legal clout with the brand to prevent being sold in the US(and despite the "it's not really part of the set, we swear" Cy-Kill face for Bike Robo, they can't do anything from the cartoon). WB released the series on DVD. That's all. The "in name only" movie that would spinoff from Bayformers is canned. BTW, check out the Batman 89 comics- DC's new official continuation of the Burton films. The Schumaker sequels have been retconned into their own separate canon now.

I don't think Hasbro wants to make use of the GoBots. They've pulled a number of stunts to ensure they have the license but that nobody else can try to bring them back in any form. When Bandai came out with Machine Robo Rescue Hasbro slapped the name onto a couple of their Transformers Universe repaints. Leader-1 and various alternate spellings of "GoBot" has been used on other toys in the Transformers line. I think they're trying to ensure their former rival toy brand disappears from history.

Travel a four hour distance in ten minutes?!? Even jet planes don't go THAT fast, do they? How the heck could you even steer? Bat-heelies? Even Adam West made commentaries for the Batman episodes (Adam West Naked) when Warner Bros refused to let him do it when they released the TV series five years ago. How devoted to his fans is that?

Could not agree more that it deserved more than one season. The animation and music was exceptional. I also enjoyed seeing Batmite evolve from a joke to a productive member of the team. Great stuff. Thanks for the reviews.

When it came to the Batman show rights Filmation had some time left over to do another Batman series but only for one season. It was the last one they had before their rights ran out, so they ran with it. If they still had lingering Superman and Justice League rights I'm sure they would have done something with it as well, especially seeing Superman is tied to how they became an independent studio. (Sadly Wonder Woman only got a cameo in the Brady Kids cartoon for some reason.) West would take over as Batman for the final two Superfriends/Super Powers Team seasons with Soule becoming Martin Stein, the brainy half of Firestorm. West would also appear in numerous incarnations of Batman in other roles and play a Batman type hero in two different series, Goosebumps and Kim Possible. It's nice that he found a way to embrace Batman when so many other actors couldn't get over how stereotyping had killed their chances to play anyone else and ruined their careers.

Did you notice that I hardly ever see Batmite at large? He was definitely a late arrival. His first appearance was in the year 1977. He could've first appeared on this date: September 14th, 1968. Zarbor was his number one enemy. They both came from the planet ergo. Batmite was definitely Batgirl's sidekick. Here's what else. The Monkees didn't make fun of Batgirl and Batmite back in 1977. Even the GPK (Garbage Pail Kids) trading card sticker artists and authors have never made fun of Batgirl and Batmite in a gross way. Even the Robot Chicken animation crew members have never made fun of Batgirl and Batmite. I'll tell you more along the way who else never made fun of these characters. 📅

In a way playing Batman was both a hit and killed Adam West's career as most of his later roles had a nod to Batman in some way. A amusing example is the 90's Zorro episode "The Wizard" where his character was named Dr. Henry Wayne.

@@dwashbur The Batman TAS Gray Ghost episode was partly based on West & several other actors becoming so typecast that they couldn't get work. West sort of rolled along with it though, becoming a self parody. In fact he wasn't even supposed to be on Family Guy- the intended joke was that the mayor was just some random guy who shared the name, but West himself called up Seth MacFarlane looking for a spot on the show, so they gave him the recurring role. And it was hilarious.
