i dont understand rubin's comment that leaving CA that would mean the federalist experiment is over. maybe that democracy isnt working, though seems like people are getting what they vote for. i would say leaving to go someplace that aligns with your values is the reason for and benefit of a federalist system, let states reflect local preferences and people can move to places they like.

I was in Iraq for two tours and I did a fair amount of burning of feces and general waste and trash. But I don’t think I suffered from it. Is it pleasant duty? No, it’s not. But do I think it requires some special veterans’ dispensation? No, I don’t. Like Adam said, it’s part of waging war. War sucks. And stirring a cut off 55 gallon drum of human waste mixed with JP8 doesn’t constitute a national tragedy. Soldiers sign up to be soldiers and part of that includes killing, dying and pulling shit duty.

It’s not the exact same thing. JP 100 or A1 (jet fuel) is more refined than kerosene. It’s the same base ingredients, yes.. but so are gasoline and diesel fuel (one is just much more refined than the other).
