An honest question as a parent: 100k towards education or 100k toward a house For my kids?
@richie2dicks4684 жыл бұрын
Depends on the kid. If they are dead set on something specific that will be a good investment into education then it might be good. If they are just going to school for the experience and want to figure it out along the way then I would sink 100k into that. I don’t think I’d just give them 100k toward a house either. Maybe leave it in a trust for them later that they didn’t know about. It’s not bad for people to work for things. Then when they get the money later they’ll really appreciate it.

Love the show but at one point there was talk of the far right and the far left both wanting to ban things. Equating the far right to the far left is like equating the danger posed to America by Lichtenstein versus Communist China. One of these things is not like the other, not even close. The pro-ban "far right" is miniscule. It has no presence. The far left, on the other hand, has so intimidated otherwise sensible centrist normally apolitical Americans into cowardice and submission. The two cannot be compared as if they were threats of equal magnitude. Ask yourselves, how many lives have been torn apart, how many careers ruined, how many voices intimidated into silence in the last few years, and by whom?

Both of our kids just graduated college. Our daughter went to the more super-sized expensive university with spa, three pools and a lazy river (lol!), and our son went to a moderate-sized state university with lower tuition. Both had academic scholarships. Daughter’s tuition cost twice as much as son’s, but with huge endowment scholarships from the big expensive school, we ended up paying less in tuition for her than for our son. Surprising...

Thing about politics is that most people (like Adam Carolla) THINK they understand more than they do. There are people (minorities and others) who spend huge amounts of times studying race relations. The economics, the history and many other factors involved become our live's work. Some of us really study these issues deeply because of the effect they can have on our families. Thus, when the more educated listen to those who are less educated talk to the world about these matters, we see how racial issues worsen. Simply put, Adam doesn't just have less knowledge, he seems not to realize that he doesn't have anything close to the full picture. To make an analogy, if I had a dollar for every passionate person speaking on the climate change issue who knew next to nothing about climatology, I'd have incredible wealth. It's fine if one doesn't know about an issue, to ask questions from others who may be more informed, but to come up with the theories I've heard Adam present to thousands of people seems problematic. To be clear, I don't think Adam's a bad guy with nefarious intentions. There are people (liberals, independents and conservatives) who do mean harm. Adam doesn't fit this category in my view. I've simply listened to quite a bit of his content and heard glaring oversights, logical fallacies, and flat out ungrounded ascertains that conflict with solid data and evidence. Adam's a bright guy whose managed to achieve plenty of success, but that doesn't mean he knows everything. Many of us know less about how to construct a home than Adam. So he can only imagine how others may feel if he were to hear another popular personality talk about how to secure a roof using super glue on their podcast. Adam may draw a similar conclusion that perhaps this person is more educated in other areas, but their advice on using super glue to secure a roof is problematic and they're better off simply asking an expert.
@dwaynecoy18714 жыл бұрын
What a load of crap. You’re saying Adam is not just uninformed, but so woefully uninformed that he’s doing more harm than good with his observations? And yet you didn’t cite one single issue or fact that he’s wrong about. Go back to CNN or MSNBC.
@S.J.L4 жыл бұрын
So you've read Thomas Sowell?
@S.J.L4 жыл бұрын
The difference between this and climate is that we all have first hand knowledge of "race relations" on a daily basis, especially Americans. It seems to me that so many from the Du Bois school would have nothing else to offer and no other way to gain a leg up on others if race wasn't an issue. If people took more of a Tuskegee approach and put the energy that has been put into "intersectionality" into any thing productive then we would have a cure for cancer, a colony on Mars and new understandings of gravity, space and time.
