I used to work in a video rental store, and this was my go-to when people asked 'What would you recommend?'. Never fails, because basically everyone likes this film.

Andy hadn't put that stuff under the tree before he went to prison. He remembered the tree because he'd proposed to his wife there (as he told Red), and he knew he was about to escape, and part of his plan was to bury that money and letter there for Red on his way to Mexico. Hope. That one day Red would be released, and that he'd given Red a reason to get busy livin', and not do what Brooks did.

The poster still being up isn't a plot hole. It was hanging from the top two corners, and he raised it like a curtain. So it just fell back into place once he went through the hole.

You asked if that was a young Morgan Freeman in his mugshot - it was his son!

And his son was also one of the prisoners cheering for the fresh fish when Andy first arrives at the prison.

In the Stephen King book, "Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption," the character of "Red" is Irish and a redhead, however, when the role of Red was being cast for the film version, Morgan Freeman was hired for the part. Anyone familiar with the book understands the reason for Red's response to Andy's question. It is an inside joke because of the casting change.

I watched an interview with Clancy Brown (Hadley) - talking about his role in this movie. He is SUCH a sweet, kind, and personable actor. He said it took a lot of mental preparation to play a character that was THIS cruel and unlikable. Fantastic actor.

41:50 Obviously, Andy put the envelope after escaping from prison (if he had put it before, he wouldn't have been able to address the letter to Red). He returned there before reaching the border and then going to Mexico.

Still the #1 ranked movie on IMDB, and long may it reign! A lot of folks prefer Green Mile (also a Stephen King/Frank Darabont creation), but Shawshank will always be my favourite. Frank also developed a little-known show, called The Walking Dead.

Shawshank is one my favourite films of all time, I watch it every few years and it never fails to move me (I'm still a sobbing mess as we get to Brooks), I orighinally saw this at the cinema, and then got it on VHS, then DVD, then bluray, and now 4K. Also on my favourite films list is Field of Dreams, and The Color Purple... if you haven't seen either of them I would highly recommend them.

I think we can assume that Andy wrote down all of the crimes committed by the warden and Hadley (including Tommy's murder) when he sent all of the paperwork to the Portland Bugle (a newspaper), hence Hadley's arrest.

Red along with telling them he didn’t give a sh*t at the parole board was honest, humble and showed emotion and regret….thats why it was approved

Ah, Stand By Me (The Body) is part of King's Different Seasons collection of novellas. Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption is the first part, while The Body, Apt Pupil and The Breathing Method complete it.
@evelynne28468 сағат бұрын
Not a true story. It was based on a novella written by Stephen King. My favorite movie of all time. King has written many books that movies were based upon. Most popular are The Green Mile, Misery, The Shining. Too many to mention them all. You'll recognize the actors. Very much enjoyed your reaction.

Uhh, they arrested Hadley because he literally *shot a prisoner four times in the chest at the Warden's instruction.* Great reaction and discussion! :)

In for the obligatory "The character of Tommy was originally going to be played by a young, pre-megastardom Brad Pitt, but he opted to make the film Legends of the Fall instead" comment. Also, when Red says, "Maybe it's 'cause I'm Irish" when Andy asks why they call him Red, it's a nod to the novella, in which the character is a white Irish-American guy.

The beach scene and the narration at the end was added later. The movie originally ended with the bus going over the hill buy test audiences hated it so the filmmakers tweaked it to what we see today
