One of the most beautiful songs ever created from the heart and mind of a human being. Joan of Arc has become a symbol for so much and so many because of the power of her visions, her belief in them, and her willingness to literally walk into fire in the name of truth. She represents to people, in no particular order, religious fanaticism, teenage rebellion, androgyny, feminism, individualism, anti-clericalism, nationalism and no doubt others. This is a great duet with LC singing the part of the fire to Jennifer's Joan. Stunning video images also!!! Merci Beaucoup!!!!

She doesn't represent half of these nonsenses
@littleghostfilms3012 Жыл бұрын
@@ivankomadanvonrakovac8415 Over six hundred years she has indeed represented these various aspects in different times and places. All you have to do is look at her life and see in her character the many things I have listed. You obviously have little knowledge about her life. She was a woman fighting as a soldier with men which was unique. She dressed as a man in order to be one with the troops which made her androgynous. She represented nationalism as a fighter for France. She was a 17 year old, thus teenage rebellion. She stood up against the authority of the Catholic church, anti-clericalism.She represented individualism in that she listened to the calling she felt to leave her family and go and lead the French forces to drive out the English.

I think Cohen was so special, so extraordinary, so talented at probing into universal truths/emotions that whether he is the greatest or second or third or whatever is immaterial. I think he was in a category of his own, and I've never been as inspired by a songwriter/poet. On a truly petty note, and with no disrespect to Mr. Zimmerman, if prizes and awards were TRULY meaningful, it was Cohen who deserved a Nobel prize.

Listening to this, so beautifully sung and illustrated, it feels to me that every human being in her or his own way is Joan of Arc. I appreciate very much you posting this song.

THAT is 100%. I hadn't read your comment, but knowing Cohen had learned Torah as a young man and we Jewish Chasidim learn Torah all our lives, I saw the exact Torah principals that explain what you said perfectly. My comment is from a few years ago and also I think last month. Was it just an obvious observation to you,or via your past learning in science,or philosophy? {here} Hedgehog's Right of Passage 1 year ago B"H, Certainly on the simple level L.C. tells of Joan's heroism ,but spiritually LC mentions the 4 elements of all G-d's Creations www.chabad.org/library/article_cdo/aid/83664/jewish/Heichaltzu-Chapter-VI.htm which are :Fire,Earth,Air and Water each element returns to it's source physically. The Spiritual counterparts are also 4 worlds each in descending order :

We don't know how God uses others' evil will to do His own will. With the cruel, violent, premature death of Joan, the French soldiers took much more strength having her as martyr and as the highest example of braveness and love for their country. This song grabbed me hard & I crie my eyes out it was that good. Jennifer has a beautiful voice & the way they did this is amazing & to me is the best tune Leonard Cohen song ever & words cannot describe the emotional feelings it gives me but it touched my soul deeply. A lot of good people died at the stake & the ones who did this evil to them to me are the ones who needed to go to the stake! History has it's twist & changes that we not know of but some of us seem to know a lot about it. 1400s-1600s has a lot of deception & betrayals that many were robbed of their lands & their True titles & royaly was stolen & not the kind today with the behaviors seen but a different kind of Royalty with Loyality & Trust,. A real king lived among his people & not in high palaces looking out seeing his people starving with hopeless eyes staring back. Today it is very clearly to see the ones who back then progressed to now & are visible of who they are & with all this threat of war, soariing foor & fuel prices gives you the impression that there is more to it? Yes there is & is that they are all known, exposed & threatend by those who found them out & they cannot escape us as we are here to collect their evil souls from the bodies stolen & believe this or don't but you are witnessing their ends & soon enough our new beginnings are in the forecast without them or their way of doing things that you all are so used to having well imagine the wealth they robbed from you & your ancestors of past 10,000 years & you get how much you are worth today like each verified american citizen is worth 1 Million to 11/2 million each to start! Hard to believe I know but also hard for me to explain how that is & how do I know? Trust in the few of us who do know & maybe were just not from this time but are here ffor the moment the moment you need us cause none of you can get this done nor know enough of how to or who to & when to get them all before they get all of you which if you notice is right now! Russia was made to be hated for many years by a evil & their medias, Putin is not a evil murdering dictator but many in this country are just that! Oliver Stone interviewed this Great man several times so go watch that & decide but also to know truth when your caught in a big deathly lie! Please just wake up & do some research & maybe one day & quickly enough join each other as a unified people cause when you do you win & the evils die out fast without anyone to have controlling of so do you now get this by now people??????? Why go at each other when it is not in you to do so but are made so to do it. These are very crafty beings & the history I mentioned says they are & here to do it again. TIME IS NOW AS TIME HAS RAN OUT LONG AGO? YOUR ON BORROWED TIME SO USE IT WISELY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LAST TIME/ LAST CHANCE FOR ALL!!!!

Jennifer Warnes brought a contribution and quality to the songs on her "Famous Blue Raincoat" album of Cohen songs that allowed me to appreciate the potential in several of his songs. She absolutely brought these songs to life for me. (I suppose you could also say she made them more palatable or commercial in the process.) And, in some ways, it may be the highlight of her career when she chose to interpret these songs, making them her own. That is, her voice and her heart seem so perfect for the songs. The result is very deep, heartbreaking, melancholy, and emotionally rich the way she sings these songs. So this is a pairing made in heaven.

Could have read my mind... Exactly my intro and sense of perfection on both writer and singer... Could not sound this heavenly otherwise. Intonations. Perfection. 💯💥

direct, simple, powerful. Cohen's gift hasn't been matched.

When Leonard Cohen and Jennifer warnes collaborated on this record it was amazing like magic I was going through intense religous experiences and I was baked so fcked up but hanging onto the Faith that I believed would hold me together a couple of years ago I was singing this at an open Farmers Market and this woman out of the Blue stopped from 2 blocks away and came wandering into the Market cause she knew this song she stayed I was done and told me she knew the song from way back when and it meant so much to her Imagine hearing that song of Leonard Cohen 's from that far away and running n to hear the last part no one wrote like Cohen a true Poet so much travailing and suffering and silent wandering of the mind and heart God Bless him ....R.I.P
