One of the true reflections of John Prine's beauty is his ability truly to see others. He was only 25 when he wrote this and "Angel from Montgomery." Such depth of awareness. Really showed love.

I'm 72. Had Mamia/Sekor 33mm in '1973, I was a GI in Korea when I got it. I loved my Kodachrome. Sadly photos got lost in a move.

I was fortunate to hear Paul Robeson singing this in the 1950's when he was finally allowed to leave America and do a tour round England. I queued at the stage door afterwards and got his autograph. He asked how a young girl like me knew about him. We exchanged a few words and he shook my hand. An unforgettable experience.

She's a Miss Beautiful Supreme A girl that others wish that they could be If there's seven wonders of the world Then I know she's gotta be number one She's a girl that can't be beat Born and raised on ghetto streets She's a devastating beauty A pretty girl with ebony eyes She's the sunflower of nature's seeds A girls that some men only find in their dreams When she smiles it seems the stars all know 'Cause one by one they start to light up the sky She's a girl that can't be beat Born and raised on ghetto streets She's a devastating beauty A pretty girl with ebony eyes When she starts talking soft and sweet Like birds of spring her words all seem to sing With a rhythm that is made of love And the happiness that she only brings She's a girl that can't be beat Born and raised on ghetto streets She's a devastating beauty A pretty girl with ebony eyes Yeah, yea yea Yeah Pretty black beauty Yeah, yea yeah Yea, yea, yeah, yea, yea, yeah Yea, yea, yea, yea, yea, yea, yeah She's a girl that can't be beat Born and raised on ghetto streets She's a devastating beauty A pretty girl with ebony eyes Ebony eyes

Did JW sing both female voices? If not, who sang the (coloratura) soprano vocals? All three voices came together in harmonic bliss. I was mesmerized listening to this, and still can't get it out of my mind.

John Prine at 22 or 23, understanding the loneliness of the elderly and the grieving. Dylan showed a similar side on The Freewheelin’ at a similar age when in Bob Dylan’s Dream he sings, “$10,000 at the drop of a hat, I’d give it all gladly if our lives could be like that,” after telling us about his friends from a train ride all growing up and going their separate ways, with the loss of youth, innocence and friendships … at the grand old age of 21! Few people can touch our souls in such a way … the world becomes a much sadder place when their talents leave it.
