Thanks for the video. The community needs more videos like this. Dealers are a rip off. Do you have a vid oh how to adjust if they are out of spec? Sub’d!!!
@AdamChandler865 ай бұрын
I appreciate it. I don’t have an out of spec video but it’ll require Shims and a bit of math but not crazy hard. When I do come across an out of spec water cooled GS, I’ll definitely put out a video .

Great video how to check clearance. Where is the video for actual adjustments?

30K miles and I haven't had to make any adjustments yet. When I do, I'll put out a video. Apologies.

Thanks for the video. How did the spark plug boot come off? did you use any tool to get it out?
@AdamChandler862 жыл бұрын
I have a Spark Plug Puller tool from Adventure Designs. Their site isn’t loading right now but there are a lot of cheap options on Amazon & eBay. Just search “R1200 Spark Plug Puller” it’s a pretty simple tool.

Give me an 800cc R80 airhead with carbies and pushrods any day. As a BMW dealer said to me, "if you can afford a $30k bike you can afford dealer servicing charges. Here i Australia, non dealer servicing voids the 7 year warranty.
@AdamChandler864 жыл бұрын
Sure but this bike was $19K and dealer service is not required to maintain the 36 month warranty.

Hi Adam, great video. I was just wondering if you need to top up the oil after checking the valve clearance as it looks like oil gets lost during the process, no?
@AdamChandler864 жыл бұрын
Good question. So always fill up to the sight glass. You can do a valve check w/o changing oil and you'll lose .2-.5L when you crack the covers off. I've found rocking the bike hard right and left causes a lot more oil to settle in the pain and you lose less. But after valve check is done, start the bike for a few seconds and then check sight glass and add until it fills again.

I have the annoying tick, or slop sound. I'm hoping doing a valve check and adjustment might help with this. Anyone else have that tick/knock/ or slop sound when start and idling?
@AdamChandler86 Жыл бұрын
Only someone who listens to these things all day can tell you for sure but all boxers tick and most people don't hear it and others like me do. The super loud ticking usually means your cam chain tensioners or cam lobes are worn. It's something 2016-2018 R1200GS bikes have had issues with around the 30-50K mile mark. Not many, just a few but it's an issue I know some people are dealing with.

is it the same process for a 1250gs??
@AdamChandler863 жыл бұрын
It is, the tolerances of the valves may be different but how you check them is the same.

love your channel and subscribe to your podcast. Question I bought a 2013 1200gs was and is running great but after setting a couple of weeks due to corna virus i took it for a ride and have a code for camshaft position sensor. Have you ever had to replace one? I can't find any videos on how to do it Thanks
@AdamChandler864 жыл бұрын
Hi Rick, I have not but looking at the part online, it looks like a really easy fix. This is the guy to email who has probably done it before and has photos - jvbproductions.com

If adjustments are necessary, how is this done? Do shims have to be added or removed?
@AdamChandler864 жыл бұрын
I've owned 3 Boxers and have never had to adjust before. just check and always in spec so as soon as I have to adjust, I promise to shoot a video.

What kind of feeler gauge are you using? I have never seen a feeler gauge in millimeter displays three decimal points. Also, valve shims are available in two decimals only, from 1.72 to 2.60 mm.

I use this metric gauge which is a lot easier to measure and identify the shim sizes. www.amazon.com/dp/B07B3TQQSV/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_eLayFb4QE5PXN

hi what year model is that your working on it looks different to mine which is a 2014
@AdamChandler864 жыл бұрын
this is a liquid cooled R1200 (has 2 coolant radiators in front of fuel tank). If you have one oil-radiator under the headlight then you have an oil cooled model and the steps would be different.
