That was a bit painful to watch. I don't see the point of complaining especially when you did not do your homework before going to a foreign country. for the most part Tokyo is very english friendly. Train stations are in both english and Japanese, so are the announcements. Know the weather / rainy seasons, best time to come to is fall or spring. Avoid summer as it is brutally humid. Food is cheap, lots of great local spots. As for the not eating in public.yes that is very rude to do, hence if you notice it is super clean. Your food smell may bother someone ( please don't ever eat on the subway) Pick up a rail pass before you come, you can travel on the Shinkansen and have access some jr stations. I have been lucky to visit to visit Japan many times, as I type this I am in Tokyo and loving it :)

I love this vlog. It actually SHOWS Japan and the environment instead of a person sitting in front of a camera. The only thing that bugged the hell out of me was the unpreparedness. I would check the weather to know if it's raining or not, I would learn the language, how to speak it and how to read it and write it before going to ANY country. Not knowing where you are is a perfect way to be in danger. Having expensive equipment soaking wet is a perfect way to waste time and money.

I felt so bad watching this, I wish I could have been there to help! There's a hotel chain called "Toyoko Inn" that has rooms for $60-$80/night, they're small but they have everything. Also, convenience stores ("combini wa doko des'ka?") all carry 500 yen umbrellas, which people leave at the front entrance of shops and other convenience stores. Oftentimes since they're so cheap people leave them when it stops raining, for others to use like this couple did. Want to go back so badly!

My wife and I plan on going to Japan next near and I want to watch any video that I can to help us prepare. Personally, I felt like this video helped. A lot of the other videos (which were also helpful) were people who just got done traveling there and are now given tips. Like most of the comments mention, these two travellers make one of the most boring and worst travel-shows. Four-day-trip for two major cities in Japan as their first visit is ridiculous to begin with, where the culture is so unique and deep. Many people will spend four days just in one island! And if one travels abroad with no planning, at least be prepared to enjoy every unpredicted incident like rain. Smile! Yes, a physical smile will change your mentality and attitude. If they thought the silence of lone walkers on the street was "weird" (personally, if I witness all those lone walkers talking to themselves, I would feel more "weird" and worrying), may I say that the woman was so very WEIRD not to respond whatsoever, apart from a couple of blank glances, to that kind man's offer of umbrellas. If they are still travelling abroad, DO TRY to enjoy all experiences that you'd never encounter in your home neighbourhood, unless you get dragged in a crime scene or something, of course.

I honestly don't know why you guys didn't plan things in advance, like hotel rooms, umbrellas etc.. As for you characterization of Japan having "weird" rules, I don't know why you would expect things to be the same as where ever it is you come from (I assume somewhere in the US), it is a different country after all. Maybe a little more research into the customs in Japan should have been done, including a little bit of the language - even just a phrasebook would have been helpful, and I don't know why you didn't have one. Finally, you looked as if you hated being in Japan, based on the amount of complaining. I am sorry to say so, but that is my reaction to this video.

Normally I woudln´t be that harsh, but this is just very poor. Even excusing the whole " look bored & talk in short sentences while you stare at the camera with a petrified expression trying to be cool" thing, there is no way to justify such a way of blowing money doing virtually nothing interesting at all. Of the whole Kyoto stay the only thing I really got clear is that you guys got wet. Ah yes, you also showed two images of the place you were actually visiting. I ´ve never saw anyone with a minimum of adventurous spirit eating in McDonalds while you arrived to a culinary wonderland, or worrying about hotels that much for that matter.
@redfish3379 жыл бұрын
Mario Borja Pérez López If they actually ordered what they showed a video of, I can't fault them. The cheese teritama is only available for about 1-2 months a year and very good. If I'm in Japan in April then I'll get it once or twice. Otherwise, I don't eat MEALS there, but it's still a good plus 100-300 yen- when whatever good food you had didn't quite fill you up (or you had an early dinner), but you aren't quite hungry enough to put down 400-500 yen for a matsuya/yoshinoya bowl to make up the difference. Good for small treats too, like a milkshake (had a seasonal sakura flavored one this year), or mcflurries. Just because McD is super low class in America doesn't mean it doesn't have a few interesting things (and higher quality food and service), if you go somewhere else. Again, I wouldn't EAT there, but it's practical food for certain situations.

Outstanding. Thanks for recording and posting. First visit to any different country can affect you in many ways. Never knowing what to expect or how to prepare for the unknown. 27 Different countries I have visited in the past 13 years has taught me much about life. One country in particular has stolen my heart and has been a huge impact that I have decided that will be my retirement destination. Always visit other countries with a neutral mind and 100% respect for that country, customs, people, government and NEVER EVER agree to transport ANYTHING for ANYONE, no matter if you know them or not. Learn basic words and phrases of their language and that will be your passport to many great experiences. The people will think highly of you for having enough respect to learn a few words and they will go out of their way to make sure your visit will be excellent. Many nights spent in the homes of wonderful people, food and food and food. Smile, kindness, open mind, respect and your journey will forever be memorable. Too many western tourists go with the notion that they know all and closed minds. Not respectful the least little bit of other cultures and that closes every door of opportunity for them. The negative comments from others, please disregard them . Like life, its lessons and you learn as you go. It being 100% different than anything you know, you cannot be expected to know every detail. You can read books, watch videos and brows tons of photos but all of that is nothing compared to first hand experience. Could you ride a bike the first time you tried after watching many others ride? NO, it takes time and experience. Not knowing the culture is a disadvantage once you get there. Once you are there, there is way too much to take in, learn, remember. Take your time, learn and enjoy. All of the critical comments, lighten up. I bet NONE of you were ''perfect'' on your first visits to foreign lands. It's human nature and no 2 people react the same.

Gotta find different actors for your show...people who enjoy travelling and exploring.

why would you travel with a back pack without taking some kind of raincover for it (and for yourself) with you?

Wow most depressing people ever. They are like complaining the WHOLE time. They are in Kyoto and they're complaining about the rain. Why didn't you buy umbrellas? Like Wtf, There are so many stuff to do in Kyoto and they go to two temple. And then Tokyo... They go to McDonalds... You don't go to Japan to eat a Hamburger... (Yes, they ate in other places, which includes Oh Surprise! SUSHI. So predictable.) The only good point goes to the film maker, the video was well-made.

23:15~ yeah you guys wouldn't know why you are not allowed to walk with your ice creams. Because that place is extremely crowded and if you have ice cream with you, you may drop it on someone. also lots of tourists throw the rubbish away. so basically buy ice cream ~~ finish it near the shop~~ put the rubbish into the bin which belongs to the shop. it keeps the place clean and decrease of the risk of ice cream dropping. so you shouldn't say it's weird. it's our HOSPITALITY.

I rarely comment on any video. But I'm going to comment on this because I HATE it so much. When you are travelling around the world and filming at least pretend to respect some of there etiquette and culture. Rather than make a face and go 'there's so many weird rules here' try to understand why maybe? You two shouldn't be embarrassing yourself on youtube really.

the 15 rocks thing - from what i understand, the garden is designed in a way that it is impossible to see all 15 rocks at once (unless you sprout wings and look at it directly from above or something).

***** pretty sure a local sushi bar would have been more convenient than waiting in line for a mcdonalds anyway

Loved the part from the taxi cab when they filmed rain and talked about how wet it was

You guys don't seem very enthusiastic about being in Japan. I'm sorry, I love the footage and your cameraman takes really good shots but your hosts are severely bringing the whole thing down. When I went in 2009 I smiled and talked to people and DID MY RESEARCH and had an amazing time solo!

You are not allowed to eat and walk only at place where it's crowded because you might end up smearing the food on people's clothes and also there is no smoking while you are walking because it's dangerous. And no talking on the phone while riding the bus or train because it's loud and people will be annoyed.
