@@waynecampbell6033 no actually you can still buy new Sega Genesis and Sega master system consoles in South America to this day. It is the longest running console but If you don’t wanna count that the Atari 2600 was first sold in stores in 1977 and when the Super Nintendo and Genesis were out you could still buy brand new Atari 2600 consoles.

Back in the day we owned a Sega Master System and Sega Mega Drive. My cousins owned one, my friends owned one. But no one, and I repeat, no one that knew owned a NES or Super NES. I'm not even sure if it was well known in Australia. Personally, I had never even heard of Nintendo until I purchased a VHS copy of Toy Story back in 1995 or 1996 and the Super Nintendo was mentioned in the advertisement for the video game tie-in before the movie started. Years later I saw The Wizard, but the NES never jumped out at me. The first Nintendo console that I ever saw was Nintendo 64, a friend had one and was playing Goldeneye on it, but I ultimately picked the Sony PlayStation over it. We didn't own a Saturn or Dreamcast, but until 2002 or 2003 there was even gigantic arcade called Sega World, it was full of games and rides and so forth. Sega certainly left its mark on Australia.

It's weird how SEGA was more of a thing than Nintendo here. My Dad owned a Master System when it was out, and never heard of Nintendo until the Gameboy. Easier and cheaper to find Gameboy, Master System, and Mega Drive games

The Genesis is a fantastic console. I was born in 92 so I was a little young but I remember having one in the mid 90s and my favorite game bar none is Puggsy. Between the amazing music and the innovative physics mechanic, to me is just such an incredible game. I've since got a High Definition Graphics model one recently with a model two Sega CD bundled together at a local game store. I was blown away at how nice they looked. They seriously look like it was sealed and was just recently taken out of the box.

+Prince Vegeta That's not how that works. The Super 8 replicates the hardware/software. It's not built into the console. To call that backwards compatibility is like saying the Wii is backwards compatible with Atari 2600 games because it uses emulators. The Genesis had all the Master System hardware built in since day one, the only thing it lacked was the cartridge shape.

Hi Adam, I never did own the Ronald McDonald game, but I did rent it. I was astonished at how fun it was, however I could never find it for sale back in '93 when I was 9 years old. It is indeed a lost gem, and gun star heroes, was the best game of that generation. There was not one game on Snes that was better than GSH. The music and everything was hard core.

Hey Adam, great video as always! I wanted to let you know about some things that you might not be aware of: All versions of the CDX support RGBS however there is a problem with the video output so only certain RGBS cables work. You need one with boosted C-Sync. Also, the Genesis 3 works with the 32X/PBC, but it requires an easy mod. Also, there is a true digital HDMI mod on the way for the Dreamcast. It bypasses the DAC chip that creates analog video so you get a true digital signal. It is better than VGA. There is a true digital HDMI adapter for the GameCube right now. It just takes the Digital AV port's digital audio/video signals and converts them to usable digital DVI-D signals over HDMI and Digital Audio signals over TOSLINK. It isn't in cable form yet because we cant get the connector needed. Since it requires soldering to the mobo, it works on DOL-101s and allows 480p on those models.

I liked what you said about the best games being lesser known. I've always felt that as well as the way the genesis appealed to older gamers has led to this bias that is very common today that the snes completely outclassed the Genesis. In the console wars book they talk about marketing to college campuses and teens that probably dropped out of gaming when sega died off or when they got busy with their careers nowadays. Meanwhile the snes very much marketed to the elementary age market who just now are in prime nostalgia age which lead to the idea that some people have that sega was never good. Plus the way Nintendo and square and others have still been keeping the public aware of franchises that were in their stride on snes.

Michael Jackson had a partnership with Sega in the early 90's. To go along with the Moonwalker video game, there was also a Moonwalker Arcade game as well, The music is Sonic 3 is very similar to he tracks in the Dangerous Albums. Songs like Jam and Who Is It? were taken, and sped up, to mirror the style of Sonic's gamplay. It remained a secret because of the Child Molestation case that he had to fight against back then. Janet Jackson also sampled a Sonic track, and used it to record Together Again.

Sega Channel was the best. $13 a month for 50ish games. So so good. Better than renting games before buying. Sega Channel is how I found Flicky, Ristar, Streets of Rage 2, and Biohazard Battle. In my opinion, Sega is the most innovative console company ever. People can argue Nintendo, but Sega did so much stuff that often gets overlooked.

Adam, I'm legitimately glad not only that you decided to make these console generational videos, but also that I came across your channel on KZbin. Seriously man, this takes me back to my early days playing with my Super Nintendo while my cousins were on their Sega Genesis... without even knowing we were actually becoming fan boys (hate that term btw) of our respective systems. I haven't owned a console since Nintendo 64, and have been a PC Gamer since Unreal Tournament 99 came out. ..however I might start a collection of the past consoles since I have so many good memories of the experiences on them as a kid. In summary... keep kicking ass man. Great perspective pieces on each generation, and enjoying all the info that wasn't really available at the time.

AdamKoralik I've watched and read about this quite a bit, and I'm still not sure what the actual story is. Some theorize MJ didn't like the sound the console produced, so his music was pulled at his request. Some say it's still his music, but he is uncredited. Howard Drossin (Comix Zone) and Jun Senoue (sp?) are credited for it. There seem to be either remaining parts, or at least huge influences. As is also mentioned, he was facing charges at the time, so his name was dropped being another theory. I'm sure one of his producers claims it is indeed his music. In any case, it's a great sound track. Edit: One of the games that really would have benefited from an actual CD version! Comix Zone and the Streets of Rage series, being two of my other favourite soundtracks of the MD.

Plus: i can confirm sega was BIG in Italy in the 90s! Fun Fact: SEGA made an agreement with a commercial television (owned by Berlusconi) and created an afternoon show which was basically a daily hour long SEGA commercial. They reviewed all SEGA games and plugged an intense amount of products. I remember the Game Gear TV TUNER (i don’t know if you have it in the US) licensing Beverly Hills 90210 and even italian programmes. It was super cool in a very dorky janky 90s way and i have very fond memories

I got my Genesis late in it's lifespan, around 1995 for my sixth birthday, and I loved it. Got so much mileage out of the 6-Pak cart that it came with. The only thing that annoyed me in hindsight was that Majesco (who took over production of the console or so I've heard) is that they just bundled the console with the three-button controller and not a six-button one

In 1993, my brother & I were going to my Grandad's for Christmas & Mum & Dad told us to bring the NES with us with all the games which confused us. Christmas rolls along & there are two massive boxes plus other gifts. I had one small one thinking it was a WWF VHS I wanted but I opened it & it was Alien 3 for the MEGA DRIVE. I suddenly realised what one of the big boxes was. We got a MEGA DRIVE with a MEGA CD. Best Christmas ever! Lol. The MEGA DRIVE was my uncle's first so we got a lot of games including Duel Test Drive II which my friends kept borrowing. My NES went to my cousin who got robbed before Christmas. Aladdin was also one of my favourite games for the MEGA DRIVE. We had that until 1997 when we got a PSONE. Cleaning out my garage I found my old MEGA DRIVE with power cord. I bought a SCART & a controller & it works!!! But the MEGA CD is broken & the area it connected to is exposed & I don't have the cover for it which sucks & I bought my friends old NES. Lol

Hotsex spy Just one...just one. The common belief there is that LJN was long dead by that point, and mostly known for shit. Activision (I'm pretty sure it was them) owned them and hadn't used them for anything. Activision made Spirit of Speed 1937, realized it was shit, and threw the name LJN on it, so as not to hurt Activision's name. LJN's last function was to be a stamp of crap.

i like the pulpy and visceral action-chase scenes in The Terminator a heck of a lot more than the traditional epic look of T2. It wasn't nearly as gritty and intense as the first. The pace of the Terminator is some of the best any movie has ever had. Only Die Hard and Robocop come to mind when it comes to the pacing.
@DominikSobolewski
@DominikSobolewski 9 жыл бұрын
There is nothing more intense that to me in film as the Tech Noir scene and the Police station scene. The Terminator is a fusion genre piece,with elements of horror, sci-fi, romance, action, and noir. It was done by a true mastermind who knows how the human mind works. Nothing since the Terminator has James Cameron done anything as meaningful as his masterpiece, The Terminator.

Even though most of the staff made games for the Super NES at Konami, they wanted to develop Gunstar Heroes for the Sega Genesis because the system's Motorola 68000 microprocessor was necessary for the visuals and gameplay they were striving for. Treasure approached Sega for a publishing contract. At first, they were not granted approval because they lacked a track record, but Sega instead contracted them to develop McDonald's Treasure Land Adventure (1993). Several months into development, they were granted approval to work on Gunstar Heroes. Treasure staff was split into two teams to work on both games in parallel. They had a staff of around 18 people at the time, most being ex-Konami programmers. The staff felt they had more freedom working under Sega than Konami. McDonald's Treasure Land Adventure was completed first, but Treasure decided to finish and release Gunstar Heroes first because they wanted their debut to be an original game". Again, thanks a lot for your videos, old and new. Waiting for shenmue 4 ^^

A thing to note is many people have done videos and discussions on this. Prices are skyrocketing, due to synthetic price raises not value raises. Basically sellers are saying they want more money, and charging more and more. ITT: Greed. I got killzone for 5.99, but many will try to sell you the same game used, and scratched for 59.99 or even 299$.

Speaking of Sega Genesis, remember the scene in Billy Madison where one of the students was mentioning Mortal Kombat on the Sega Genesis is game ever? And then Billy Madison said that Donkey Kong was the best game ever, (possibly talking about Donkey Kong Country) but unfortunately no mention of Tempest 2000 on the Atari Jaguar, WOW!

Adam, don't ever stop making your videos. I feel nostalgia every time I watch you talk about these system's. I truly feel something is lost or something is missing with these new systems. Granted there are great games on the new generation consoles but with all the problems of dev's and there shit riddled day 1 fixes and charging dlc for every freakin game I'm starting to hate gaming on any system. What I hope for is another video game industry crash so we can finally go back to where we started.

Main games i loved for Genesis were Splatter House, General Chaos, Street Fighter, Double Dragon, Toe Jam and Earl and... The Haunting? I think it's called? It was a game where you did all sorts of horrific scare tactics to this family as revenge and you had so much time to get them to move out of the house. Too much fun. I loved many other games on the Genesis. Great console. Oh, and NHL 95 might still be my favorite hockey game to this day. Along with Mutant League Hockey.

AdamKoralik Is it possible to build the Master System power base on top of a European Mega Drive with the slop adapted to play Japanese games? Here in Europe it is not easy to find a variety of Mega Drive games so I d like to expand my possibilities without renouncing to have a Master System collection...

Well done overview, I had no idea how many different types of Sega hardware you could cram together! One thing, Splatterhouse wasn't NEC's license to move over to Sega, it was developed and owned by Namco. Namco chose to bring the sequels to the Genesis, but not before releasing the true 2nd game in the series - Splatterhouse Wanpaku Graffiti - as an exclusive for the Famicom. Even Nintendo was pretty lenient with the gore (for the Japanese market at least) in 1989.

Im not completely sure but there was a guitar pickup in the 80s called the Dimarzio MegaDrive. This may have been the reason why Sega was not able to use the name MegaDrive.

One of my favorite games at the arcade was Road Blasters, and the Genesis version of that port is amazing! It's very close to the arcade version...except for the driving wheel with a fire button controller of course..But I would say that the Genesis controllers do a good job in lieu of a driving wheel controller. There is in fact an attachment for the Genesis console, its called the Per4mer turbo driving wheel. There was a company that made the wheel for quite a few different consoles including the Saturn, but the Genesis wheel? That is super rare..Ive never even got a sniff of one out there, never even seen a KZbin video showcasing one: How I want one so bad!

Love these series of videos. One note on the six button controller. It was NOT added just to one-up the SNES (exclusively)... it was actually released in conjunction with Street Fighter 2. Unlike the SNES it had the the same layout as the Street Fighter 2 arcade stand up unit. I remember saving all my money as a kid to get SF2 AND two 6 button controllers. Personally I love the six button controller and it became my favorite controller for the Genesis. Love the series.

Ahh the Sega MegaDrive... So much sweet memories when being a child from 1991 up to 1995. Also mate, I think the Sega was supposed to be called "Genesis" in EU as well, but because of legal issues with a band from the same name (yes the one with Phil Collins), it was hard for them to release it in EU in each country as Genesis (remember EU has different countries instead of states), that's why they chose Mega Drive in EU. Anyway. What I think about Sega MD, is that it was basically the future of gaming, as SNES was not. Look at all the stuff SEGA MD introduced, which is still here today in consoles. I mean, Sega MD already could log into the "internet" called SegaChannel, as you said in the video, and you could even download games there. Like GoldenAxe 3 was a SegaChannel exclusive. Funny thing is that I actually still love the MegaDrive model 1, it looks better than the US Snes that's for sure. The 50 dollar discount was more than 100, remember games back then were around 100 dollars, so they basically gave you 150 dollar discount xD

Although I was born in very late 90s, Sega Genesis was indeed my very first video game console. Sadly it got stolen and then my parents gave me the Super Nintendo. My controller broke, and at that time there was no where a replacement to be found. So my father just dumped it altogether and bought me a brand new PS2. I skipped out the 5th Gen, and I have mixed feelings about this.

Loved the video Adam! This is actually my favorite console of all time. Just wanted to mention that my CDX supports RGB, I just use the same cable as the Model 2. I hook all my consoles to my SACRT TV and the CDX looks as good as the previous models. My friend got one a while ago and when using RGB, everything looked "dim". So maybe there are different board revisions out there?! Maybe my friend's system needs some new caps?! I don't know.
