I remember going around a friend's house who had Sky One. He had a massive pile of VHS tapes with Simpsons episodes recorded on them. Also remember my family gathering in the lounge to watch the first episode of the Simpsons on BBC 1.

I fondly remember watching the simpsons on BBC2 at my grandparents house when I was a kid. The episode I remember watching most was treehouse of horror iv.

Sky had a break bumper they would use circa 1994 where Bart would jump onto the Sky One ident and play an electric guitar before diving off. Bugger all footage of it on KZbin though.

Those are great to see! The Simpsons aired on Global TV in Canada, as far as I know they didn't make any custom idents.

I remember an advert they ran on channel 4 just before the simpsons moved over there, where the edited clips from episodes to say "The Simpsons are coming to 4", I don't think I watched them after they left bbc2, so I didn't see the special idents but I do remember that advert

It's like that Homer landed on the floor so hard that he's froze lying down with his eyes closed on the first channel 4 indent and the second channel 4 indent is like that Homer is running away from an angry mob or from his boss; Mr. Burns.

Funny that the simpsons ended its run on BBC2 with the (imo at least) last truly great series of the show. By the time it went to C4 i'd had sky for about a year or 2 so any significance of simpsons being on terrestrial had vanished anyway.

The ident with the Simpsons shaped like the BBC "2" logo is nightmare fuel for me, but luckily I'm from the US. I do find it silly.

I didn't know that The Simpsons was originally shown on BBC1 before it moved to BBC2 that I knew when I was little.

If Channel 4 won the rights in 2002, and The Simpsons debuted on the channel in 2004, that's the end of Series 15 when the rights to the BBC expired, not Series 11.

It used to be a big thing in the middle times of Sky when they started plastering logos on my picture to tune into BBC Two to watch the same episode logo free like earlier Sky series at a mates house on cable before I got my Sky used to air it on that channel logo free at the beginning same thing happened with Channel 4 a bit then Channel 4 started putting logos on itself but in return Sky One followed by Sky Showcase removed the logo from the show part again outside of 10 seconds but it's still counts as mainly logo free. I stopped Channel 4 before these logos but know Itchy and Scratchy and Fizzy Chewetts with bubbles looking like Simpsons clouds a bit and Simpsons Domino's Pizza sponsorship being your Simpsons sponsorship Idents a different side thing was the sponsors Idents of Simpsons.

And after Comcast bought Sky, Disney bought 20th Century Fox. As a consequence, Sky's rights won't be renewed when they expire and the show is now on Disney+. Channel 4 is apparently unaffected, thank goodness.

BBC One's Saturday slot wasn't actually successful. It was launched with huge fanfare, and was hotly anticipated to dominate Saturday ratings. But it didn't. ITV pitched Sabrina The Teenage Witch against it and won. It was pulled from the slot within weeks (Seven weeks, I think.). The BBC had paid a lot of money for it and its failure raised tough questions for the corporation. It did the rounds as a filler for mostly graveyard slots on BBC Two for a while, and really just drifted into the 6pm slot seemingly with no big masterplan. But it started to take off there, and it just stuck. By the end of its run on the BBC it had become a national institution to watch The Simpsons at 6pm.
