Thank you for listening. If you enjoyed my work please consider purchasing a copy of this audiobook on Audible or Apple Books
ANGELA, a bleak and unflinching horror in which we meet a lonely, middle aged woman who must live with the legacy of her family's dark secret, the madness that grows in the absence of love, and a closet full of delicate skeletons.
"Think Stephen King's Misery, Du Maurier's The Birds and a twist of Single White Female, a thrilling cocktail, masterfully made."
"I could not stop reading. The flow and pace, as the madness unfolds, pulls you in from the start. As you discover the reasons behind Angela's behaviour, there are feelings of revulsion and pity at the same time. A darkly brilliant and insightful look at a woman driven to the edge by a terrible and lonely life."

Damn good! Made me so anxious for Angela to hear this. I imagine the curse to be a sort of schizophrenia, the lack of boundaries by time or plot as she washes through the story is so wild! Good narrator as well.

Thank you! I’m so glad to hear you enjoyed it. I really wanted time to feel like it tortured her, too fast sometimes, other times too slow, so I’m really glad that came across for you. And you’re right about the curse. It’s about the hereditary nature of mental illness and the way we pass on our worst characteristics to those that we raise. Thanks for taking the time to listen and to let me know what you thought. I really appreciate it.

Just listened to this one too. I’m fascinated with your writing! I think there is a lot to dissect. Some of the gruesome imagery is unparalleled and I love it. I have some hypotheses on what you may have meant with certain themes and symbols in Till Death (I may be totally off, but you seem like you have a lot to say with your fiction), but I will need to listen to Angela again before I can even begin to speculate what the symbolism might be about. Angela is another great work, and man if you can enlist this voice actor in the future definitely do it - he is excellent. You’re now one of my favorite authors, and I don’t say that for the sake of flattery. I write fiction myself, not nearly as polished as yours, but I tend toward this style / sub genre and I try to write the same way - poetic science fiction / horror. In a very very rough sense, I write a little bit like you do. Not nearly as artfully, but I have a lot to learn. Can’t wait to hear or read more!

Thank you so much. It is so gratifying to know that you have looked so deeply into what I have written and that it’s had an effect on you. I do write with a specific point or meaning in mind and do my best to layer the thing I’m trying to say into the writing wherever I can. I find it’s more effective if the true meaning is hidden beneath or obfuscated by something that grabs the readers attention (gore, zombies, supernatural elements). I think it adds depth and points readers like you who enjoy subtext and subtlety toward the deeper meaning. Hopefully the plot is interesting too of course, but I like there to be something weighty behind it too. I’m always happy to chat about my stuff so if you ever have any questions about meaning or symbolism then feel free to get in touch. Rob’s a great narrator isn’t he? I actually wrote Till Death with his voice in mind because I loved what he did with Angela so much. I’m in the early stages of getting him to narrate Drive (my difficult third story about a guilt ridden serial killer) so stay tuned for that. It shouldn’t be too far away. That’s great to hear that you write too. It’s such a great creative output. Much cheaper than therapy too! 😆 I look forward to reading your stuff one day. Thanks again for taking the time to get in touch. It means a lot.

Adam M Booth You’re very welcome! I love fiction that has both a compelling story and some weighty meaning underneath it. Not a lot of authors do that, much less do it well and with subtlety. That’s great to hear that the narrator may be involved in the story about the guilt ridden serial killer - sounds like an interesting story! I might have some questions and things for you about the symbolism in your writing. I don’t know if you want to disclose that kind of thing over KZbin comments. My email is andersonpm@etsu.edu if you wanna shoot me an email. I’d be happy to send you some of my fiction too if you want. Either way it’s all good. And yeah writing is way cheaper than therapy 😂

Thank you so much to everyone who has taken the time to listen and share your thoughts on Angela. It's incredibly heart-warming to read all of your comments, and I truly appreciate your feedback on both Adam’s evocative storytelling and my narration. Narrating Angela was an unforgettable experience. Adam’s poetic yet hauntingly dark prose made it a joy to bring Angela’s story to life. I found myself deeply immersed in her world of loneliness and unravelling, and it’s wonderful to see that this resonated with so many of you as well. For those of you who have been captivated by Angela, you might be interested to know that I’ve also had the pleasure of narrating another of Adam’s novellas, Till Death, which shares the same haunting beauty and darkness. It's available here on KZbin and on Audible as well, and I hope you’ll find it just as compelling. Likewise, I would heartily recommend The End too if you haven't already listened. Thank you once again for your support, and I hope you continue to enjoy Adam’s incredible stories as much as I’ve enjoyed narrating them!

I just read all of the posts below, and I feel appalled, and repelled. Not one person expressed horror, and, or, disgust at someone bringing to life the imprisoning, torturing, and murdering of helpless animals. How could anyone the least bit humane possibly dwell on the quality of writing, and not the obscenity of the cruelty, and psychopathology? If it were about the torturing and murder of human babies, would that be enough to stir and sense of caring?

I suppose I see your point Sarah bc I had to fast forward those parts and couldn't stomach them. You wonder about copycats who could do such things so I get where you are coming from in a way but I think, though grotesque, the pathology of antisocial or at very least deranged (certainly children) attempting to re-tip the power scales by abuse of animals is a terrible reality. I don't feel the book is glorifying that but in fact intentionally horrifying the reader so as to cause ambivalence in how we view the protagonist meaning she is both a monster and a victim. Just my take.

@@AdamMBooth I loved it for many reasons but one is that it showed the way that the horror of social ostracism matches equally the stuff of nightmares in impact and pitch. One can see that whether Angela is fully, partially or not at all hallucinating, meaning maybe there is this OTHER world that only she can perceive, it almost doesn't matter because her life has become equitable to any mythical hell realm. The ending strikes me as returning to the womb of earth, giving up on leaving the nest and flight for the peace of her efforts being mercifully over. So sorry to go on and on here. I just really loved it Adam.
@AdamMBooth
@AdamMBooth 3 жыл бұрын
Absolutely Lorraine. We as readers can speculate as to how much of it was real or not and we’re free to come to whatever conclusion is most satisfying for us but the point is that for Angela it was all real and that’s where the real horror lies. And yes, you’re right about the ending. Being hugged tight by the earth was the only embrace she’d ever known.
