@@fernandafernandes5200 Forrest Baird's Philosophical Classics: Vol 1, Ancient Philosophy is a pretty good all-in-one edition for studying ancient philosophy, including the Pre-Socratics. Nearly all the "Post-Socratic" stuff that we read later in the class can be found at the MIT Internet Classics Archive for free (classics.mit.edu/Browse/index.html)

Quoting Heraclitus: “The world... is and will be eternally living fire, regularly becoming ignited and regularly becoming extinguished....” V. I. Lenin said "A very good exposition of the principles of dialectical materialism." Heraclitus was an early materialist who emphasized that the world is changing, developing.
@augustosarmentodeoliveira30232 жыл бұрын
actually Heraclitus didn't know dialectics as we do... it's misleading to read him as a type of proto-Hegel

What exactly the trouble with Heraclitus? Looks like he’s saying it very clearly that all is indeed in a state of flux, however Logos supplies intellectual tools to conceptualize pseudo-permanent entities like a river or sense of myself or a sunset, our entire language in fact
@reveranttangent17715 жыл бұрын
So some suggest that Heraclitus may be speaking in ice cream koans rather than actual koans.

"Into the same river we both step and do not step, we are and are not. " Is this aligned with the quantum physics theory? and schrodinger's living and dying cat at once?

So, which one of the vids with the same name is the true vid??
@ephraimherer9406 Жыл бұрын
I dont know if it makes sense but maybe heraclitus didnt believe in logos. Because it isnt in flux so although people say or have logic it fails them and turns into flux.
