I had a season pass to Ghost Town when I was a kid. I'd ride the rides and play video games all day. I had the gunfights memorized. And I liked watching the girls dance at the Silver Dollar Saloon. Then when I was a teenager my grandparents would do two 15 minute church services every Sunday at that little chapel. I could get in free as long as I helped with the service, in which I would stand outside and hand people a bulletin. I bet that looked cool, a long-haired kid wearing an IRON MAIDEN t-shirt giving the people a church bulletin, LOL. Good memories. Thanks for sharing this video.

I am from this area.. I have relatives in Cherokee... I've been to Ghost Town many times in my Youth... It was always a good time.. Chair lift ride to the top...Old West Style Gunfighters shooting it out in the street and in the Saloon... And the Red Devil Roller Coaster... Good Times It's sad that it closed down...

The "Red Devil" at Ghost Town in the Sky was the first roller coaster I ever rode and the fact that it was attached to the side of a mountain made it much more terrifying. That park was a real gem tucked away in the corner NC. Makes me sad to see it now.

On that show "Pickers" they went to an abandoned amusement park. A grandson of the original owner showed them stuff they could buy as well as the remains of the park. The reason it closed was that the insurance sky-rocketed one year beyond their ability to afford it. Probably that's what happened here. Very sad.
@WelshWidgetMan2O1O10 жыл бұрын
Susan Underwood I can believe that about the insurance being to costly because even health insurance has become like that... way too expensive to afford anymore :>\

I´ve had nightmares about visiting an old theme-park at night alone, accidentally hitting a button that starts everything up with creepy "cheery" music and the rides eventually breaking down and falling apart, major anxiety-feels!

+VocalEdgeTV It has gone through a lot of financial hardships over the years and has shut down several times. Currently it is supposed to open with a different concept in 2016, the western town will be an Appalachian Village, there will be zip lines, a walking course where the roller coaster once was, hiking trails, and apparently the buildings in the western town are being rented as artisan shops and a restaurant.

Now re-opened. Operating schedule from June 2014 - October 2014. It's great to see that my childhood can be revisited. I was always too chicken to ride the rollercoaster that loops off the mountain. The commercials were always hilarious: "Ride the strangest coaster in the world!" The haunted house was good, the bumper cars gave you whiplash, the swings flew off the side of the mountain, the ferris wheel gave an incredible view of the scenery. All in all it was a great place to go. Note: "No cussing or spitting" in the saloon show. That means get all your fucks out before you see the show!

+Garland Ragland, me too. Went with my Boy Scout Troop many times. There was a set of mechanical swings that had as a part of the revolution about 25% of the swing took you as the rider out over a CLIFF. It was insane. There was an old cargo net strung out about 25 feet below but you just had to know that if the chains on the swing busted one of two things was gonna happen: Either you'd get tossed way past the rope and die in the 500+ foot drop or the cargo net would catch you and being so old and sun damaged you'd just plunge right through and die 500 vertical feet later in the sudden stop. We were frequent visitors in the early 1970's.
@garlandragland8 жыл бұрын
Jim K. I'm still shocked it closed. I had no idea. I went in the late 80s and a couple times in the 90s I think, along with Tweetsie Railroad, which I think is back open after being closed for awhile. I still have the photo they took of me as a kid -- absolutely terrified -- going up that chair lift to the top. I always wanted to take the train to the top but never got the chance lol. I remember that swing right off the cliff too. When I first went as a kid I refused to get on it but later years I did and I remember thinking "how is this even legal?" lol I also remember looking over the cliff and seeing the top track of some kind of roller coaster or something I think. Do you know if Santa Land is still open?

What you do now is what my Mom used to drag me around doing when I was a kid. Seeing things like this now and imagining their hat day is pretty awesome.

AMAZING ! We visited this place in the mid-1990's, and it was still booming !

I have a picture of me dressed as an Indian and my brother as a cowboy that was taken in front of the stage coach back in the early 70's. I still remember riding that chair lift and being terrified the whole ride up! Thanks for the video!

My dad took me here when I was a little girl. Good memories. I am sad to see it closed. Thanks for your adventures, Adam!

I remember driving through this part of NC and looking up and seeing this attraction park at the top of this mountain and it was called Ghost Town. We didn't have time to stop but I do remember seeing it from a distance from down in the valley. That was in 2007 so I don't know if it was closed by then or not but it was cool seeing your video here because I would have never seen it otherwise. Yet another great video from you two :)

I vacationed here each July as a child.I probably went to Ghost Town 15 times from 1960 to 1973.We rented a cottage next door to Gehisha Gardens,the Japanese store & restaurant run by a Mrs.Jenkins who has to be dead now.I wonder what happened to her place?My Mom later bought a trailer on land a mile past it which I sold 15 years ago.Thanks so much for filming this and hope it is sold again and re-opens.

Great job on this video! Thank you for making it. It's so sad that really cool places like this are abandoned. I can almost hear the fading echoes of laughter. Too bad you had to walk all that way up the mountain - just on the other side of the mountain is a fully functioning escalator... ( Just Kidding )
