It has nothing to do with modernization. Mumbai is running out of space and Dharavi sits on key real estate property. Expect all the people to be forced out and the area occupied by corporations. If the Govt was really concerned about modernization, it would start by improving the Govt schools and hospitals around the country which I have to say haven;t seen much improvement since the 1990s.

I think Singaporeans were involved in the urban redevelopment planning. Redevelopment of Dharavi has been written and discussed for over a decade at the LKY school of public policy. Surbana (HDB, JTC, Capital Land etc) might be bidding for development contracts in the project.

So people are expected to live and work in a construction site? There are more than hundred thousand people living in that area. Where are they going to be housed once the project begins? Development is good, but it seems like Adani who has no experience in housing projects has no concrete plan in going about this. If the Govt was serious about developing the project, they would have held a tender for all housing and urban developers, some of whom especially in China and South East Asia having real-world experience in such projects. But as usual, the project goes to Modi's favorite businessman. Our tax money will be given to Adani for the project who will at least pocket 100 million for himself. BTW Gift city in Gujarat does not even have foothpaths for people to walk in. That is the level of competence given to new developments in the country.
