If adapting M-Z it makes most sense to use the TTArtisan 6 bit adapter so you get focus confirmation and assist. The best manual focus experience on mirrorless out there.

Agreed. Love my TTArtisan adapter and it's very fun to use with focus confirmation AND trap focus. And being able to input the focal length and aperture value on the fly is super helpful. And you can adapt vintage lenses to M-mount and you get all the benefits too. But Urth is the sponsor so.. 😅

The flange distance is totally off. it goes way above infinity. To give you an example, on a 28mm, when shooting at 3M, the lens marks around 1.7, at 5m marks around 2.3, and at infinity it's marks a little above 5 meters. it's nice having focus confirmation, but having to forego the close focus ability really sucks...

I felt a bit uncomfortable with the cropping when using a manual lens on the X-T5, but the Nikon Zf looks quite promising!

I personally don't like the experience manually focusing on an aps-c camera as it often means a shorter focus throw plus the depth of field scale is not always ideal. Also I just prefer the framing (not having that crop) and depth of field by not having to use wider lenses to get the FF equivalent.

The Nikon ZF arguably has the best manual focus experience of any modern digital camera. The photos of the man taking a nap and the lady in the red hijab with the baby are amazing by the way! Also, did you grade this with Dehancer?

You can also zone focus with an AF lenses. I do it all the time. You just need to setup your shutter button as a shutter button only.(and not an AF then Shutter button)

Difficult if the AF lens doesn't have distance markings but not impossible. Also a good zone focusing app will help.

With the TTArtisan M to Z 6 bits adapter you can have the green focus confirmation on your Zf, it's more confortable because all adapters are not well on distance and infinity is not correct !

Ok the adapter mounts the lens but does the light meter read and where is the aperture set? I assume you set in on the lens and then match aperture on the camera???????????????

Bought a ZF on its release. Great camera without doubt. Just couldn’t stand the implementation of the ISO. Totally nuts !

The switch was a little counter to my older Nikon DSLRs, but once you get your head around the dial setting the maximum ISO instead of the minimum, it helps avoid the auto ISO pitfall of the camera cranking up the ISO on it's own.

Nikon needed an Auto position on the dial so you don't have to go through some menus to go from manual ISO to auto. I often quickly switch between the two when photographing and that would be my main gripe owning a ZF - well, that and the flippy selfie screen.

Really looking forward to your solo videos again. They provide a lot more attention to the actual photography and your thought process. I like to use adapted lenses,BUT (it's a big but), sometimes it makes no sense because some lenses have undesired effects on the finished image. I wouldn't buy a £3000 camera and put a really old lens on it, as that defeats the object of buying the £3000 body in the first place. I shoot across multiple brands, and formats and never spend crazy money on any camera if it is only for pleasure. If people want to experiment and waste silly amounts on mixing old and new, let them do so.

I have a Leica M11 and a large kit of Leica M lenses. Additionally, I also use a Nikon ZF, on which I adapt M lenses, but not exclusively; these are different systems, and I also use the ZF for video. So yes, it's conceivable. Moreover, it's timeless KZbin content; if someone specifically searches for a video on the experience of using Leica M lenses on a Nikon ZF, they will come across the video. It doesn't matter if they also know that I bought a Leica M last month.
