I’m 95% manual focus shooter… I miss some shots but generally I get “better” more consistent sharp photos with manual focus… with practice it becomes easier to quickly focus manually and I don’t have to worry about autofocus not performing how I want it to…

I agree, Leica and manual focus have changed my photography since, I'm traveling more and not shooting things that require breakneck speed autofocus. I kept my A73 and the 35GM for those times when I "need" AF. Sold off the rest of my Sony lenses and picked up an M11 to go with M7 and 35 Summicron, couldn't be happier.

I feel like manual focus is similar to a manual shift car. It's an obsolete technology that rarely produces better results. However, it is also a lot of fun for some people and that's not to be discounted in hobby or art.
@joetrent4753
@joetrent4753 2 жыл бұрын
Manual lenses are certainly not obsolete and you are right that they don't necessarily produce better photographs but that's not the point. Lots of photographers feel they are quicker and more accurate focusing with a manual lens. BTW, I can assure you a manual gear stick is not obsolete either, it is preferred in lots of countries all over the world and especially in motorsports.

I have been using the TechArt Pro adapter. One thing you need to watch out for these manual focus lenses. If any of them has floating glass elements, you may want to do a rough manual focus of the lens before triggering auto focus so that you get the best optical performance. Let 's face it. These M glass scream for a Leica rangefinder. BTW the Fotodiox is a shameless direct copy of the TechArt Pro.

I'm psyched to see channels talking about manual shooting now. I think people are curious about it but it feels a bit daunting. Seeing Hines talk about it and literally show his methods. Now you're getting in there too. I think it'll be the encouragement people need to give it a try. It really is one of those things that breaks photography wide open for a lot of people. And it's honestly just super fun. And who doesn't want to have fun shooting? Oh, and vintage lenses are cheeeeap. I got a Helios 44-2 58mm F2 and a Jupiter 37a 135mm f3.5 for about $115. That's for both, shipped. The Helios is a character monster, the Jupiter is sharper than my modern lenses. We don't have to spend Leica/Loxia/etc prices to get great results 🤘🤘

Nice video about film era lenses! I agree that It's really fun adapting to digital mirrorless. Years back I tried adapting lenses to DSLRs, but I much prefer the current cameras because of all of the focus aids that show up in the camera's EVF. My current favorite is the Asahi Super Takumar 50mm f1.4 (pretty sure I have the non-radioactive 8-element version... but I'm going to verify that pretty soon, lol)

I shoot mostly architecture and landscapes so I love the small light manual lenses. It’s also a fun throwback. 35 years ago when I started, what auto-systems existed weren’t terribly reliable, so a “true” photographer wanted a rugged manual body with a slew of great lenses and the right selection of film for the conditions. 😉 A plus would have been to have a built in matchstick light meter in-body so you wouldn’t have to use your clunky handheld light meter. 😁 The modern systems are amazing, but going manual really is a much more engrossing experience! 😃

When using a Leica or Zeiss lens on a mirrorless body, we should only manually focus. Consider what the lens does to focus, especially the Leica ones: elements move relative to each other. Using the AF adapter which moves the entire lens ignores that, which seems to be a bad idea.

@@JasonVong Great lenses! I love the Voigtländer 50mm f/2.0 apo-lanthar. I think f/1.2 is a bit finicky for manual focus ;)

I'm going to Singapore next week! Hopefully I might bump into you guys! I use voigtlander FE version for Sony so when I manually focus, it zooms peak so I can see if it's focused. Do share with your camera set up for those manual lens when you want to make sure you achieve focus

I use an old Minolta mount Kiron 28mm F2.0. I love that lens. And it was very cheap.

Would be good to see the entire process, focus zones sort of make sense to me, but combining that and AF point always slows me down. Looking forward to watching what you do..

Adapters are less than 20$ you can get so many vintage lens that will render amazing photos. I’d suggest any fast 50mm f2 or faster shoot wide open it’s a lot of fun.
I was right about Manual Lenses but…
