For the Garmin Varia system for push bikes, even the standard "multi beep" sound (a multi tone jingle when it starts detecting vehicles, and one when danger is over) out of the head unit is a little much too for me, but the single beep mode is a nice little reminder to do a shoulder check. I, and the people around me on the cycle path would be going crazy if it goes on continuously. Usually the system detects early enough to safely do a shoulder check, and then divide my attention to front, back and watching the dot on the screen.

Biker myself and I get the camera system but that radar warning system seems overkill, especially at 300 quid when you should already have your head on a swivel and try to always be aware of things approaching, I'd rather not become reliant on tech like that and use my own awareness for free.

Interesting comment at the end about adjusting to the beeps. Not sure that would be something I could do as I find certain beep tones to be distracting. It is one reason I have disabled the audiable tone in my car for the central warning system, especially in colder weather. I don’t need a beep every few minutes to let me know the temperature has gone from 4.5 degrees to 4.0 degrees, I am happy with the light being displayed and looking when I can look. I refer back to my original comment, I think the kit could be refined more to be better subjective, or at least configurable to be more subjective, based upon the rider and how they want the system to operate 👍

This is a really good point. As a kid, I saved up for a speed computer for my mountain bike. Within a week of fitting it, I can cycled I to the back of a parked car from staring at the speed, not the road. Use of these devices is about user bandwidth. If you are used to the bike and all the current features then you will have more bandwidth than with a new bike. The same applies to adding new equipment. If you add a load of new stuff then you'll have more bandwidth introducing them gradually like you did, rather than trying to cope with loads of new systems all at once. Clearly depends on the user. Look at pilots who have to scan across multiple instruments while in control of a vehicle in 3D space!

When I had a Innovv K3, I mounted it using velcro above the things under my seat, not buried underneath other things, so I could quickly get the SD card and swap it - because it takes ages to copy to a computer. Then I use ffmpeg to compress the video. Now I have a k5, 4K front, 1080p rear. The control unit and front camera are the same unit to avoid sending 4K video along long cables. Everything connects to that over cables that are too long.

If you're worried about being distracted by the blind spot system you can switch the bleeper off (RTFM?). The early ones resets to being "on" each time you switch the ignition off/on but the latest version keeps the current option you've chosen until you change it. I have the mirror version rather than the watch type you have and the beeper is located in the control unit that sits under the seat etc so I can't hear it once on the move as I wear earplugs. I find it useful in busy traffic and on motorways in particular as an extra set of eyes but it doesn't replace my usual observations. Dashcams for me are a no brainer

I've seen the Innov blind-spot system in another channel and although it's a hugh quality product, I honestly can't see the use for it. Just assume the answer is "Yes" if you're wondering whether there's something in your blind spot and do a head check. Even a convex stick-on blindspot mirror would work better. In fact that's what I have on mine. Too much technology for minimum gain.

I have a C7, not C5, Android Auto/Apple Carplay display I imported from China. I mount it on a bar behind the screen, so it is clear of my Experia dash. I can see over both, as the bike has an upright sitting position. The display's second bluetooth channel cannot pick up my Sena helmet audio, so I have to take 2 channels from my phone - video to the display, audio to the helmet. On long rides, my phone's battery saving stops the connection to the screen, so everything disappears. That's a problem with my phone, not the display.

The bike content is fantastic at making other road users aware of the vulnerabilities a motorcyclist faces. ❤ Ps: bridge Rd motorcycles is expensive. Just a suggestion but I've found mersey motorcycles and zr motorcycles (2 doors away) to be very reasonable price wise and they are both very very diligent. They are both on derby Rd so your spoilt for choice. I found the beeping distracting from here bit like Chinese water torture. If there was an option to turn it off in town and rely on the visual blue light I'd go for that but use the beep on motorways where accidents end with more consequences and where wind impacts what you can hear around you. Great content again.

It isn't an "either/or" thing. Some accessories are really helpful, other really distracting. For me, riding time is about me and the roads. The less distractions from that, the better but if there's something that's genuinely helpful then I'm up for it. I think cameras are a good idea - both to record if anything interesting happens and also in case there's a dispute following an incident of some sort. I do like the idea of ABS and traction control on bikes - but I know why a lot of people don't.

As a motorcyclist, that beeping from the blindspot device would begin to annoy me very quickly. I get annoyed and distracted when my Tomtom is talking to me when it's not piped into my headset and is coming out of its built in speakers instead. If I had one fitted I'd switch the audible alerts off if possible and integrate a check of the device when performing my mirror and shoulder check before making a manoeuvre. What was the rationale behind mounting the CarPlay device to the handlebars? Instead of looking for a crossbar mounted behind the windshield (so riders side) to which you could mount the CarPlay device just above the dash? Was it cost, using the peripherals that came with the device or potential risk of distraction? Thanks for the video Ashley.

The blind spot device is in the wrong location, move it to sit just on top of the speedo cluster. That way once it's in your eyeline kill the bleeps and rely on the flashing, it might need a shroud to give it shade. Regarding the cameras, I think car cameras should switch to a camera and recorder as separate devices, it would make for a cleaner install, and perhaps allow you to fit an SSD instead of an SDcard.

I think I'll stick without all the gadgets. I've not tried blind spot cameras; I would be concerned that they won't give enough information. At speed I wouldn't be able to hear the beeps I expect. I'd rather use my eyes and head movements and maintain situational awareness that way than rely on a gadget. I occasionally use a phone as a satnav if I need to be somewhere. Getting lost is a good part of a general ride though. It helps you find new roads. If you have one, it's better having it higher up I reckon. Accessory bar behind the screen so you aren't spending time looking down. Distractions are bad enough in a car On a bike they can be far worse. At the lights when you were distracted did you really get your checks in? Did you check your mirrors only or actually shoulder check? Did you rely on waiting for beeps? (Not a criticism - it's always hard to tell with action cameras).

I also think these manufacturer are missing a trick by not adding a Bluetooth low energy link to motorcycle intercoms . 😃🍻

If I wanted all the tech I'd simply drive my car. I can strap my phone on the handlebars, IF I need a map but being that I usually only ride within my township or into the nearest big city to which I've an understanding of the roadways it usually isn't necessary and my phone stays in my pocket. Riding a bike is dangerous enough without all that extra distractions of a lot of electronics. The only thing that I've added to my bike is the windscreen and I was given a phone holder as a gift. I understand that you need a lot of cameras and things for your content/sponsors but is it necessary. Distractions are more fatal on a bike than in a car. IMHO you've set a bad example Ash.

You change 1 thing and it causes all sorts of problems. Made much worse if let down by customer service as in my case. Adding on all that extra tech…needs to be done properly as with a car. I know a few car owners who had reliable 2nd hand cars, had a load of electronics bolted to the electrical system and then encountered reliability issues with the car such as drained battery. Very smooth relaxed ride. Sort of an engine with plenty of low down torque.

That extra screen not being central would do my head in. Aside from that it is much much better to have a SatNag above the standard TFT. With the best will in the world, you will look down at the map, and the the other additions to the bars making them distractions. The Innov footage looks good and it is nice to see they have switched back to smaller bullet cam style cameras, which are easier to install/locate. I'm certainly tempted. Having to dismantle so much to get to the SD card though is a pain and I'd be looking to place the main unit much more accessible than that. Tech is great, many cars/bike have blind spot detection now BUT usually in the mirrors, where you are looking, so this 3rd party one is a 'no thanks' for me.

If you are knocked off then the last thing you need is something that could catch on something else and suddenly drag your head in a sharp motion. Secondly it seems to me that it is at least partially blocking your view and I'm sure you would never advise any of your students to wear anything that impedes their vision.

AI? rage screaming at my ‘smart’ speakers in the house / car, and siri / google navigating me to a place name they can’t understand or a different country across the atlantic you don’t need the distractions. Enjoy & ride your ride. 👍🏼

Yes, if you need route information then it's on paper with waypoints on the tank in a waterproof clear bag, or tank bag. You rarely need to go far enough for it to be a problem without needing to stop and refuel when you can switch the paper to the next set of instructions. It's made even easier to plan routes now with StreetView as you can visualize what is going to be there before you leave.

A phone pouch is as cheap as a map pouch, but it has every map in the world, live road closures/traffic info, a gps dot so you can't lose track, and even calculates and reads out the directions so you don't have to look down. I understand your aversion, people seem to add gadgets for the sake of technology as much as for the benefits, but navigation is one area where those benefits are pretty clear.

@@gordon861 Spot on, I've been doing paper maps for years. Unless you are doing an Iron Butt rally you are going to take a break every 100km or so (depending on the size of your bladder and gas/petrol tank). Plenty of time to check your way points/directions.

Exactly, my moped is from 1989, it has no fancy gadgets and I don't have a phone mount. I use google maps and my memory to plan my route before I go somewhere, and if I do get lost it takes 2 minutes to pull over and check. I'm not old either.

The blind spot detector looks like a useful addition but I think it could be refined slightly (this is coming from someone who doesn’t ride so could be completely wrong on what I am saying) If the engineers / design team are reading this, ask for feedback from those using the device as I suspect not many will proactively contact you with ideas. But a couple from me having seen it in action for a few minutes… A mute / acknowledge button so you can stop the beep for 30 seconds while you approach or are waiting at lights. I don’t think it needs to go off everytime and could end up being ignored or removed if it becomes too annoying Have a little GPS unit inside so if vehicle speed is

Got to disagree, there are no pillars to create a blindspot on a motorcycle, so technically they don't exist. This is just an excuse to not look properly, and in my book that's just dangerous. In fact all this sh1t in the bars area just looks like a load of unnecessary distraction IMHO

Being a motorcyclist and an Engineer, the blind spot thing is useless IMO. If you don’t do head checks, before a manoeuvre you don’t belong on a motorcycle. The Engineers or Marketing group are creating a product that has no use. It’s a solution to a problem that does not exist and it designed to part fools from their money.

All that beeping would drive me nuts. If it's a blind spot warning, it's not a mirror check you should do, but a blind spot/shoulder check, because the blind spot is massive for a motorcyclist. Better to build that blind spot check into your system of motorcycle control than rely on an annoying beep to remind you?

Not sure I’d be showing my house given motorbike theft is so rampant… I have a great Carpuride system for Apple Carplay - once you’ve got more saddle time you’ll find it much less distracting, as everything slows down once riding becomes an extension of you. Carpuride also works with gloves on…

@4:01 You came across as being a little surprised by a Road closure which, having reviewed the footage, wasn't a surprise to me. I had noted the signs @3:01 and believe that you were probably more focused upon the vlog....... I suggest that Autopilot had kicked in because of this. So...... distracted as a result? Probably. Don't take me wrong, Ashley. Been there, done it and got a T shirt to prove it 🤣😁. It is very difficult to concentrate on two things at once. I prefer less "tech" and more Old School roadcraft but that is just my opinion. One size does not fit all. Excellent review, regardless.

Be aware that if you buy the Aoocci system with the cameras that despite it being advertised as a 1080p system it's only a 1080n system which is a much lower quality and size format. HD 1080P is 1920 by 1080 pixels or 2.1 megapixels. 1080N on the other hand is only 1080 by 960 pixels or 1 megapixel. Aoocci have admitted their advertising have got it wrong and are going to alter it, they probably won't though. Apart from the camera/recording let down the rest of the system is good and works well.

Hey man, I hope you don't mind if I try to give you some advice here, it's not anything big, I just wanted to share my experience with you. I'm a vegitarian and used to always stray away from using real leather in my clothes, that was the mindset I brought towards motorbike gear, I bought high tech and expensive jackets and jeans that were meant to be just as good as leather (so they said)... either way, I came off doing 40 and slid down the road about 10-15 meters, the armour held up and didn't tear, but the heat transfer was the issue, it was so severe that I ended up with burns all down my arms and knees. My advice that I give to every rider is to use fabric gear for in town riding only, anything faster than 30 I strongly recommend wearing leather armour as the heat transfer is much less intense, and if youre going on the motorway, personally id be scared to use fabric armour, hence why moto gp riders will always wear leather. This is my own personal opinion and I'm sure many riders will disagree, I just base it on my own personal experience.

Two thing for that radar that would be good for me, not a biker though. Hide it away as the display is distracting and mostly pointless. Two separate tones for left/right so you can learn which side to check from the sound. Very useful though.

Ash, I know you're new to riding. But, please stop sitting behind traffic and start filtering to the front. If lights change you can always slot back in. Regardless of your super dooper rear cam, if a car isn't paying attention and plows into your rear you will get seriously hurt. You've passed your bike test now, now it's time to learn roadcraft...not the car roadcraft you seem really good at to be fair, but bike roadcraft. Rule no1 remove as many risks as you can. So, no riding near the gutter and start filtering to the front, even if you predict lights may go green before you get to the front, are essential. Also use your throttle to warn cars of your presence. Consider removing baffles to make your bike louder! Always helps when filtering. Load pipes save lives, as they say. Stay safe mate 👍
