I’ve watched this a few times over now, I’m not convinced that there are two lanes available on approach to the roundabout. I’m only going on the road markings in the clip. There are of course two lanes on the road exiting it. There’s no excuse for the poor positioning of the impatient driver. I suspect they might know the layout and complete the manoeuvre without incident mostly. It does not mean they’ll always be able to do so. I hope they improve their awareness without injuring anyone or themselves.

I haven’t got an issue with the police doing their job but this particular officer is a clown.

In Greece, and some other countries, the right hand rule still applies on the roundabout. So basically those going around the roundabout have to yield to those entering (I.e. from the right).

This is actually very common in Sussex, BUT, a lot of the roundabouts are signed and marked up to be able to do that!

A police trained advanced driver is constantly scanning mirrors, he would definitely have spotted the van giving chase right from the start hence his speed. Problem with a lot of advanced drivers is that they think they can educate and reprimand others because they are better.

9:23 that “trouble maker” sun strip is likely also illegal, if it protrudes 1cm into the swept area of the windscreen in front of the driver. That’s £100 and 3 points.

It could be assumed that the cammer is signalling left and the driver of the blue car sees that and knows they can use lane two with little risk (wrong as it is in this case).

I almost always cede priority to all turning cars unless there is a bike box or its better to move to the forward position. Is this the correct way to do it. I tend to find it easier to generally let cars pass in difficult situations even if I technically have priority as I feel at least it makes a situation safer and smoother for everyone. I also try to take them minimum amount of road space I can. My question is should I prioritise visibility and predictability or the kindness of ceding my priority to make flow of traffic better for others. I'm not 100% sure which is the correct approach as I am aware kindness not following the highway code priority can also be dangerous. So what should I do in these situations?

The clip from M6 J3, it is very common to see lane 4 turning off towards Bedworth there. I've seen it a few times when heading towards Coventry. I just expect it now it's that common.

Strangely this problem of using the right lane to turn left raises its ugly head in France too - you read it right, despite the circulation being reversed! People often go three-quarters around a roundabout in the right lane, potentially cutting across the noses of those going straight on. The Code de la Route (Highway Code) specifies clearly left turn-left lane... Added to this problem is the insistence on using the left indicator when going straight on...

Normally I'd defend bus drivers as I'm a 22 year veteran of the buses myself, but I ain't defending that performance, not because he nearly whacked the brats, but because of the shoddy manner in which he took that corner. Sometimes even some bus drivers forget the 'take the wide turn' rule. I would never have proceeded with that turn if I knew I couldn't make it, cause I don't do pavements.

The question-and-answer technique reminds me of Japanese railway staff culture - if you know you know, it’s obvious - whew they have superb high safety culture by moving their hands in unison with their actions, with purpose, and in totality. They talk their way through ever single observation and operation, not just drivers but station platform attendants too.

Since October 2023 I’ve switched to permanent Do Not Disturb mode on my phone - the only people allowed through are my manager, my partner, and my GP - and never looked back. I’ve come to thoroughly hate phone calls now - if you tried to invent them today, you’d be shouted down. It’s like a 1:1 meeting, with no schedule, no agenda, and anonymous attendance by the organiser most of the time. Stop what you’re doing! No you get no explanation sorry!

Coming to this video as a follower of Ashley, but I work in software, and in 2024 I’ve had cognitive impairment … thanks Covid … so this video is up my street, no pun intended. TBH I’m super glad my VW Golf has adaptive cruise control, which took me 1 month to learn when to rely on and when never to rely on, as I got familiar with ALL the behaviours of the automated machinery … and while I’ve found driving to be thankfully easy - I used to go on outback Australian driving tours to relax my mind like a fast-reflex video game after a long year at work - it’s only because it’s on germaine brain mode that I can do this. Same for 50% of my job. I get half the day to do things that need my brain in gear, before decision fatigue sets in.

I have noticed this practice far more in recent years. Drivers see the cars in front with their left signals on, and try to jump the queue by using the right hand lane, checking that the cars in the left lane are turning and now they can go left themselves staying in the right land to "be clever" and gaining a few places. There is a road in Hedge End, Southampton, behind Sainsbury's, where traffic seems to be frequently drive down the less busy right hand lane from the Motorway, passing the traffic queue going left, and then they also go left from the same right hand lane, to avoid queuing.

I can think of at least two places off the top of my head where two lanes go left at a roundabout (and are marked as such) and I still assume someone in the left lane could go straight on into the side of someone in the second lane
