Hi there, newbie here.. How do we know how "nonlinear" a plant/constrain/cost is? Is it from the degree of polynomial? Or if it's a plant, could it be the interaction/coupling between state? Or the interaction between input or output? or are there something else I've completely misunderstood about nonlinearity of a system? Thanks a lot for your lecture Melda, been following you since Kalman series. Great stuff!!

Is quadratic cost function linear? Why is the cost "L" in the summary digraph?

Great question! More accurately we can say that linear MPC tries to minimize the standard cost function, which has the quadratic form and nonlinear MPC controllers deal with cost functions that may be nonlinear or a combination of linear and nonlinear functions.
